Hi,

North American New and Recycled Oregon Pine.
Was very common down under but largely been replaced. So now hard to get.
We don't have a common timber with that type of grain.

Some second hand 12x2" 3 meter Oregon from Gumtree $49 each, guy in Sydney had 90 I've used 7 of these.
Cut in half and planed down to size.

So I've picked up some Wilco WSW110 / via clipsal Australia
Same size as the standard American Switch.

These Australian light switches look to be Art Deco Light Switches - Bakelite Switch

You can now also get the Belkin WeMo Light Switch, The larger American Rocker type in Australia.
I think this is the only large USA Style Rocker you can get in Australia. Should work with the Rocker switch plates.

Putting up a few of the 16mm MDF panels - to be covered in Bamboo ply

Using these Screw-in insert nuts

It makes a good reusable screw anchor to the pine battens

Using a 35mm M6 machine screw just need to fine some in brass

I'll be able to run cables behind the MDF

Also good to mount my slim 32" TV to the 16mm MDF

Hanging the picture for now is OK.
I do have an idea for a bamboo blind in front of the TV so it looks like a window.

Top Bamboo is finished. I burnt the top edge to blend in with the ceiling.

Now by hand just 480 screws for the 240 odd sticks of bamboo down the bottom.

Keeping the Bamboo Raw looking (not going to coat with amber shellac) to give the room a lighter contrast to the dark timber.
Trying to lightly burn the Knuckles. Turning down the blow torch helps keep the flame / burn width smaller.

I hate to mentioned it now, but if you routered the inside
top & bottom trim pieces, then cut the bamboo strips to fit
the trim pieces would hold the bamboo strips secure & you would not
need to screw down every section of the bamboo.

It looks good though, as is, just could have saved you alot of extra work.

Hi Atomic Tiki Punk.

Was thinking of a strip of timber/Bamboo top and bottom to hold them in place.
The varying thickness of the bamboo stopped me from doing that. But I proably could have worked out a solution in hindsight.
Might cover the line of screws with some form of binding.

That is some nice finishing work...it is really shaping up. Nice ideas about the TV.

The build is coming along very cool. That velvet you got on Ebay is nice. I have one just like it except the scene is a little different. Great job!!!!! :D

In regards to your screws in the bamboo.......In my hut I cover all the screw heads with Braid. I also use tan deck screws in bamboo so it blends better.

Little spray glue on the braid and the bamboo makes it stick together pretty well. If you want a pic of how it looks let me know...

Old and in very good condition. Just need some thin cushions

I was going to attempt to paint the design, but this looks so much better. Btw, where did you find your glass ball float? I've been looking at some overseas, but am a bit worried about getting it shipped for that size... breakages and such.

Heliconias starting to do well along the fence - lots of Cow Poo.

I like working with copper.

Tiki inspired spout for a back yard down pipe.

I'll sand it down and later I'll add a acid wash patina finish.

The wedge soldered in the bend is to silence the rain dripping from the section above.

Still a WIP.

Old Baltic Feast Watson Stain on the woven Ply.
If your staining this ply you need to use a cloth and take it slow. It's a bit tricky. As excess stain can bleed out in about 10-30 min from the overlaps. Best to clean off any wicking or bleeding with methylated spirits on a cloth or the cloth you use to apply the stain.

Just picked this up from a shop $350.00

It's 1960's type old. Doors work very well on ball bearing runners.

Picked these up also - just need re framing.

Looking great, you really have done a lot and the ambiance is there. Throw in a couple of Tikis and you are on fire!!! Love that cabinet very nice.
