So what would you do?
How could you make this into a Tiki bar light that would work well
in your bar?

Ok, right or wrong here it is.
This is what I did to Tikify this light.
PS the cord looks like in this photo that it comes out on the left.
But that is the cord to light in the background.
The cord for this light goes up the sides and in through the chain.
All tucked in nice and neat.

That's what it should have looked like from the beginning Skip, another excellent tiki bar illumination piece!

oh yeah... you have that great super power of seeing "what if" in things you find at yard sales I bet... how cool! It came out beautiful!

Awesome Skip!

WOWZER!

Wtg Skip!

T

Fantastic!!

Great Skip. Looks Tiki to me. Is the base covered in shellaced burlap?

Thanks all,
And Tiki Shark I don't do these often as buying the light and then putting
even more money into the light it can add up fast.
But I always look for light parts everywhere I go.

It costs less to make one totally out of rattan really.

With this light it was hard to get the sizing right as the top and bottom
of the globe has threads.
So this made matching the holes in the shade and the side handles kinda tricky
to get even.

And Mike, it is made of cork, so no burlap.

more to come....

PP

that's CAT !!!! I mean Tiki!!!! lol

T

Here's a short Tikiskip how to.
And I know these are not tiki but more things that would
go well with your tiki bar or Luau, Hawaiian and or tropical décor.

T

Here's our mailbox, not too tiki but for the Bosko sign (not shown)
It had one of those turned ball things before.
Just add Fisherman tiki.

Granted nothing really brilliant but it's an idea you may be able to
use at your home.

Simple fix but very effective. :) he looks very happy guarding your mail.

Skip, you're a Tiki Magician! Great transformations... :)

T

Thanks TikiAno! I just look at things with a Bamboo and Cork eye.
It's fun to make things that you can't even buy anywhere and to say I made that
when people ask where you got it.
Here are just a few utensils I have made in the past, have sold a lot of them, these are the ones
that are left.

What is this? and What will it be?
I can tell you it cost me one dollar.
Stay tuned.....

T

Garage sale season is here, and you got all of those utensils you made with Wangi Bamboo
from Frank's Cane and Rush supply....
http://www.franksupply.com/bamboo/bamboo-poles.html#river

So you may find Bongos, not hugely tiki but they fit in with the tiki tropical
vibe.
Here's what I do with em, take out the middle bolt that holds them together, then flip them.
It's that easy, I know you can do it.

Stop making cool stuff out of crap! you're making the rest
of us look bad! :)

T

This is one of those salt and pepper shaker things for your grill.
One side salt one side pepper.
just add Tapa.

Fun and clever. Wendy

T

Thanks Wendy.

Here is a globe and shade that will be made into a light soon I hope.

Before: not tiki.

Ater: getting closer.

R

That's a great transformation Skip.

S

That's fantastic tikiskip. It's great to see how your mind works how you can look at something such as that simple globe and shade and then modify it to make it, not just tiki, but also more interesting. I look forward to seeing how that ends up.

Too cool Skip, what a difference!

H

Great job looks vintage.

That is so cool, Wendy

I am so not creative....

Great job, Skip!

Yeah that is the idea, this is kinda how the light will look.
I still need to make what I call rattan staples for the light.

And thanks again all.

T

Here we Go, A new lamp shade.
Somebody was asking about shades so I wanted to see if I could make
a Tapa shade for a table lamp.

looks like the answers is yes.....

From this...

Looks so good, thanks for being so helpful.

T

Found a fixture for the Tapa shade on the last page.
But heck the way tiki is going I may sell this one as a Davy Crockett lamp after all.

Side note I saw a light like this on Eddie Haskells bedroom wall.

Theodore Cleaver: Yeah, I never smelled a real skunk before.
Eddie Haskell: Aw, that's kid stuff.
Wally Cleaver: Maybe. What are you gonna do, Eddie?
Eddie Haskell: Oh, I don't know. I might go over and see my girl. Want to come along?
Theodore Cleaver: I'd rather smell a skunk.

Aloha, Mahalo, Ohana.

S

What a cool fixture! Nice one Skip.

M

Maybe you could find a Gilligan shade.

That's definitely an improvement!
I'm not saying I don't like the Davy Crockett lampshade, it just doesn't go well with a ships wheel wall sconce.

T

Thanx all.
A Gilligan shade would be cool but may not fit in my room.

"Davy Crockett lampshade, it just doesn't go well with a ships wheel wall sconce."
True I found it that way, not sure I'm In love with it on the Tapa shade.

Here is another shade that I added the lashing stuff on the bottom.
I think it helps make it look better more tiki, sure will help hold on Tapa as well.

Before no lashing....

After with lashing...

Bump. Great stuff here, skip. Anything else to share from the past few years? For instance, I think you left us hanging here:

T

Ha! there are many things I started and did not finish.
Was going to just remake that in bamboo.

It is a holder for those fondue type forks.

Damn if it ever gets warm I can get outside and start some projects.
But then more and more that means fix the house.

Need an inside workshop for the winter months that anymore are 3/4s of the year it seems.

Ohio sucks!
