It's taking too much time to make it a perfect match. I'm going for very similar.

Wendy - with your talent make the painting your own with your own emotion in it.

I'm not sure why hang10tiki would lust for my carving. This is new territory for me.

Today work.

Hey John just for you I'm cranking out the emotion! Is it working?

Cheers, Wendy

MaukaHale- I like the Honu
Wendy knows me well
My home bar name and the mug she made me

And my shoulder ink

:)

Lookin good wendy

M

I get it now.

The honu, or Hawaiian sea turtle, is the Hawaiian symbol of longevity, peace, good luck, humility, long life and the spirit within. In Hawaii, legend tells about a green sea turtle, Kauila, who could change herself into a girl to watch over the children playing at Punalu'u Beach on the Big Island. When Kauila's mother dug her nest, a fresh water spring surged upward, quenching the children's thirst. Kauila is the "mythical mother" of all turtles, and perhaps of our children as well. It's also said that turtles were the guides for the first voyagers to Hawaii.

and, Wendy - I'm feeling your emotion!

:)

Lil tease pic:
Here is the template da spousal unit came up with for her gift piece

Can anyone tell who she's making?
:D

I know! I know! It's a bra! Size 36 long

If it's a bra it must be Tiki Bobette! Wendy

PS Janelle I like it

It looks like the cartoon character "Crusader Rabbit."

:)

MadDog you are too much, that is funny, Mauka you must be as old as I am, and Janelle I have a good imagination but have no idea what that template is a'boot. My neighbor thought I would like this thrift store find and she was right.

I pulled it apart and will use the frame and replace the background with an aloha shirt fabric.

I really enjoy all the tiki art in my 1968 built home but the Witco inspired carvings of Bosko fit it
to a "T".

I will use this one for inspiration and/or copying and carve, then burn a small chunk of cedar for the middle section.

I will probably paint the same background pattern onto the carved section shirt area but don't hold me to it.

Excellent CY. I sure do enjoy all the photos posted here. Wendy

CY- way kool,
I knew u would come up with something outCYstanding
Can't wait to see it shine

Another tease from da wife on her gift piece

I know Tiki Bob so well that I recognize the body part! This is going to be really pretty, Wendy

:) Wendy- u made her smile

Well
The spousal unit said "I should join Tiki Central"
She did

SewTiki :) is almost done with the gift
Photos soon

I told her she should join the next swap......

Very Nice!

Ohhhh I love it. Bob is wearing my favorite material. Bright colors on a black background is what I like best.
Very nice SewTiki. Good name choice Janelle. You'll need to start a thread and post this and the sea turtle.

See just like Tiki Bob my favorite shirt is black with bright colors.

I'm still working every day on the MadDogMike Hawaiian Shirt Swap painting.

I worked a lot before I remembered to take photos.

Close up.

Tree top, more clouds and I've blocked in the last tiki.

Cheers, Wendy

Nice SewTiki! Though I can clearly see through Hang10's plan on somehow absorbing ALL of the Art Swap pieces through various "identities." Hmmmm......

Well played, sir, well played. (Or, well sewed?)

In any case, great piece- and welcome to TC!

Very cool SewTiki and your painting is looking great Wendy!

I knew that was a Bob face and I'd be very happy to have that!

Welcome to TC Janelle! I need to get moving.....

I'm getting closer to the end. The main thing left is the tiki on the left. Then a few minor additions and touchups.

When this is finished I'll be working on the Wish List. That is why I'm working hard to finish. Cheers, Wendy

Thank you MaukaHale. Your turtle is coming along great!

Thank you Wendy. Your painting is beautiful.

TikiAno, that would be funny but sewing isn't his forte. Thank you for the compliment. I like your tiki shirt mug.

Thank you Cy. Your groovy guy looks awesome.

Hi Lori, thank you. I look forward to seeing your piece.

M

Welcome aboard SewTiki!

I'm finished.

The MadDogMike Hawaiian Shirt inspired swap. My whole story.

I took my favorite of Dan's Hawaiian shirts to use as inspiration for a painting.

The art is really by this person. I am just copying his work.

This is the section of the shirt I choose.

My painting is all done and ready to swap. I added a few twinkling stars to the sky.

Close up.

It's great to be done. I'll keep checking back to see who finishes next. Until the SWAP, Cheers, Wendy

Cha-ching,
Nice job.
Some ones gonna like gettin that.

Wendy,

Very nice!

Or I guess I should have said: "NĂ¢ mea ho'onani."

Thank you men this is such fun having all these messages. I'm going to have to pry it out of Dan's hands. Since he has the shirt he's wishing he had the painting. I'd rather SWAP! Cheers, Wendy

Looking good Wendy!

The router work is done. Next is stain and paint.

That Honu looks almost ready to swim to Vegas
:)

That honu looks good MK!
Jon, this is the only kind of turtle that can swim to Vegas!

This plumaria clay cutter is 2 inches across and used to be an El Pato can (you can still see the salsa residue inside  )

It's not much but it's a start. I also cleaned off my work table and re-shaped my styrofoam form some. May get a chance to work at it tomorrow.

You men just blow me away, sand and salsa and routered fins. Good work. Wendy

A little more progress. I tried the clay cutter on a scrap of clay and it works. Most of the Hawaiian shirts I see "in the wild" are XXL with a sizable potbelly, maybe I should have made mine that way

Mike- good point
Nice tin flower
Hi Wendy
Mike- and there are now a lot more XX shirts in the wild as I'm now down to XL
:)

MDM, that is definitely something I have never seen before.

I just realized I screwed up! I always use paperclay over Styrofoam, it doesn't shrink near as much when it dries so it doesn't crack. But I forgot about that and used regular clay 'cuz I was afraid the paperclay fibers would interfere with the cutter. Now I have to either cut the shirt off to remove the styrofoam then re-join the shirt. OR - I can go all Maddog Tiki Laboratory on it! I'm thinking I can inject solvent into the middle of the foam to disolve it from the inside out. If I can dissolve the core of the foam it will collapse as the clay shrinks. A little solvent on the clay shouldn't damage it. Wish me luck

Looks good Mauka, MadDog that is a great idea/project, best of luck with the use of solvents.
