That's too bad. Hope they aren't lost forever.

Hey Centralites!

I haven't posted here for few weeks, but hopefully you've figured out that a new episode of Ports of Paradise is broadcast every week and you can access the audio archive anytime from my program page http://pbsfm.org.au/portsofparadise

During this week's broadcast we (kind of) travelled to Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Persia, the Cape Verde Islands, Paris and Hindustan ... and returned to Melbourne in time for a bowl of cherries :P

For your convenience, here's a link to the latest audio archive and playlist http://pbsfm.org.au/node/56457

Caught the latest episode live online. The show starts at 7PM EST for us - prime listening time!

Hi Bam Bam - thanks for letting me know.

I hadn't really thought about the exact time difference before, but it does seem pretty handy for you East coast folk :)

Friday's episode included a fascinating interview with Joe Sehee, who performed with the exotica pioneer Korla Pandit in LA during the 1990s and came to know him very well.

A fun mix of mid-century madness this week - with cool jazz, percussion, early Hawaiian, French, Latin and Caribbean sounds.

Oh man, that Ferrante & Teicher rendition of La Cucaracha had me rolling. I've always enjoyed their work, but until recently I had no idea just how experimental they got!

It's amazing they could get those sounds from two (unmodified) grand pianos!

Great to have you listening "live" Bam Bam, I'll try to remember to send you a shout out next week

This week's program featured some primitive percussion for the sophisticated savages who tuned in

Hello Paddy! Been making my way backwards through your POP downloads......so much greatness!! Thank you!

Thanks Hami - I'm glad you have been enjoying the audio archive.

It looks like you are involved in some pretty cool projects yourself!

Finally got a chance to listen through the archive - I've been tied up the last couple Thursdays. Thanks for the shout-out, Paddy! Great sets as always.

This week, Melbourne musician Lance Ferguson dropped into the Ports of Paradise, spoke about a recent release from his solo project Lanu and played some classic exotica records.

Key musical influences and themes which inspired his CD include the South Seas, vintage aviation, his grandfather (Bill Wolfgramm) and mid-century exotica.

You can watch Lance's fabulous Double Sunrise documentary here http://www.lanu.com.au

This week's highlights included some early Hawaiian tunes, a taste of Italy, some crime jazz and a nostalgic chat with Melbourne's finest purveyors of cool - the Bachelors from Prague.

Things started off kinda crazy this week, with some Yankee Doodle bongos (Happy Thanksgiving!) and an Israeli belly dance medley ... but fortunately we calmed down in time for a chat with Sydney jazz singer/songwriter/pianist Frances Madden.

Managed to sneak in some more stereo madness before the end of the show, though!

PBS 106.7 FM can be found on TuneIn, which is how I plan on listening tonight. (At some point, I'm also interested to hear about the Tiki Tour....)

Thanks for helping out with the time differences, Hamo. These can be confusing at the best of times! :-? :-?

Please note they might change from 1 Oct, when we head into "Daylight Saving" or Summer time.

Thanks for keeping in contact - it's great to know you're still listening :D :D

FWIW I'm listening too :)
