This is daringly drawn from the box set: Bing Crosby – Easy to Remember. The 1934 performance of “Hula Girl,” the 1909 song inked by Sonny Cunha, comes from our Natal Notable’s righteous retrospective: Sol Hoopii and His Novelty Quartette – Classic Hawaiian Steel Guitar Performances 1933-34, and features Bob Nawhaine on the vocal and guitar. “Chloe” comes from our Birthday Boy Ry Cooder’s propulsive production titled: Chicken Skin Music, and includes Gabby Pahinui on Steel Guitar, Atta Isaacs on Slack-Key Guitar as well as Mr. Cooder on Slack-Key Guitar and Mandolin. “Leimomi” was waxed by Ukulele Master Kelly De Lima with the help of musicians Troy Fernandez, Andy Sexton and Mike Seda, along with Birthday Celebrant Jerry Byrd on steel guitar, and is fondly found on the sequential selection: Legends of the Ukulele, Vol. 2. “Pearly Shells” is a traditional Hawaiian melody with lyrics added in 1963 by Webley Edwards, comes from the sonic spectacular by Big Kahuna and the Copa Cat Pack called Hawaiian Swing, led by the Big Kahuna himself, our March Birthday Boy Matt Catingub. “Taita Inty (Virgin of the Sun God)” was vocalized by the legendary Latin American singer and plucked from her fond look back: The Ultimate Yma Sumac Collection. Composed by her husband Moises Vivanco, the orchestra was arranged and conducted by our Natal Notable Les Baxter. It was used in the 1954 movie: Secret of the Incas. “Evening Thoughts” composed and performed on the Moog synthesizer by our Birthday Boy Dick Hyman on his 1969 lit LP: The Electric Eclectics of Dick Hyman. “Commercial Eyes” was composed by the Tenor Sax Master Lucky Thompson who appears on this late forties track from the choleric collection: A Proper Introduction to Dodo Marmarosa – Dodo’s Dance, with Mr. Marmarosa on Piano, Jackie Mills on Drums and our Birthday Boy Red Callendar on String Bass. “Lullaby in Rhythm” was composed in 1938 by Benny Goodman, Edgar Sampson and Clarence Profit with lyrics by Walter Hirsch, and sung by our Natal Notable Mark Murphy on his 1957 labial LP: Let Yourself Go. “So Long, Dearie” was created by Jerry Herman for the 1964 Broadway musical: Hello Dolly and was performed by our Birthday Girl Barbara McNair on her 1964 ambitious album: The Livin’ End. “All the Way” was inked by Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn for the 1957 Frank Sinatra movie: The Joker Is Wild, and was recorded in 1963 by our Natal Celebrant, the Guitarist Wes Montgomery for his lovely LP: Wes Montgomery With Strings: Fusion! arranged and conducted by Jimmy Jones, with Kenny Burrell also on Guitar, and Mr. Montgomery’s fellow March Birthday Celebrant Dick Hyman along with Hank Jones on Pianos. “A Fine Romance” came from the pens of Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields for the 1936 Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers movie: Swing Time, and was sung for us by March Birthday Girl Stacey Kent on her superliatitious CD also called A Fine Romance, with her husband Jim Tomlinson on Tenor Sax; Colin Oxley on Electric Guitar, Simon Thorpe on Bass and Steve Brown on Drums. “Mood Indigo,” written by Duke Ellington and Barney Bigard was played by The Red Norvo Trio on their 1950 ragged record titled: Move, spotlighting our Natal Notable Red Norvo on Vibes and Charles Mingus on Bass. “Just in Time” was composed by Jule Styne, Betty Comden and Adolph Green for the 1956 Broadway musical: Bells Are Ringing and is sung and played on the piano by our Birthday Girl Eliane Elias on her incomparable compact disc: I Thought About You (A Tribute to Chet Baker), featuring Steve Cardenas on Electric Guitar and her husband Marc Johnson on Bass. “Here Again” was composed and sung by our March Birthday Girl, Northern Virginia’s own Lena Seikaly on her cyclical CD: Lovely Changes, with Dan Roberts on Piano, Elijah Jamal Balbed on Tenor Sax, Tom Baldwin on Bass and Dominic Smith on Drums.
