Dr. Zarkov’s Tiki Lounge show is broadcast every Wednesday, 5-6 pm Eastern Standard Time (2-3 pm on the West Coast and 10-11 GMT in Europe) at http://www.radiofairfax.org. Radio Fairfax also can be heard on Tune In Radio at tunein.com, and streamed on smartphones by downloading the Tunein app. It also can be streamed on Roku and Google TV at: http://tinyurl.com/3uqfsz9 Past shows from this year are now available to listen to in their entirety at: https://www.mixcloud.com/Flashfriend/ “Heat Wave” was composed by Irving Berlin for the 1933 Broadway musical: As Thousands Cheer and appeared in the 1954 movie: There's No Business Like Show Business, sung for us by Marilyn Monroe and drawn with tongs from the caliente compilation: The Diva Collection – The Hollywood Ladies Sing! “Face Beside the Fire” was figuratively found on the 1960 landmark LP: The Savage and the Sensuous Bongos released by Don Ralke and His Orchestra. “Downtown” by Tony Hatch was a hit song for Petula Clark in the Sixties and was sung for us by Liz Callaway – the sister of Ann Hampton Callaway – on her 2001 perusable production: The Beat Goes On, featuring Alan Rybeck on Piano. “Fireside Eye” was composed, arranged and conducted by John Williams of Star Wars fame for the 1960 to ’62 television series, Checkmate, and is finely furnished on the historical document: Jazz on Film…Crime Jazz! spotlighting the talents of Jimmy Rowles on Piano. “Tiempo” comes from the 2008 copacetic compact disc by the Argentinian singer Natalia Clavier titled: Nectar, with her husband Federico Aubele on Acoustic Guitar and Cavaquinho, the Portuguese version of the Ukulele, and Pedro Anglade on Piano. “The Law of the Desert” is the theme to the 1991 movie of the same name scored by Ennio Morricone and taken from his correct collection: 50 Movie Theme Hits. “Burning Rubber” by Gene “The Draggin’ King” Moles was disinterred from the antic anthology: Lost Legends of Surf Guitar, Volume 2, Point Panic! “Panty Raid” comes from San Francisco’s The Aquamen on their peremptory production: Do the Alkeehol! (And Other Hits). “Mondo Beyondo” was surreptitiously syphoned by the 2011 album of the same name by Ursula 1000, which consists largely of composer Alex Gimeno on most of the instruments. Numb” from Marina & The Diamonds is daringly derived from the 2010 scintillatious CD: Family Jewels. “Mirage” was waxed by Smoke & Mirrors on their atmospherical album: The Perfume of Creosote: Desert Exotica Part 1, woven by Spider Taylor on Guitar, Bass, Recorder and Sound Effects; and Michael Ely on Keyboards and Sound Effects. The Violent Femmes song “Blister in the Sun” was interpolated by Nouvelle Vague on their third album and spotlights Brazilian singer Eloisia on Vocal. “Budos Rising” was righteously retrieved from the penultimate recording: The Budos Band II, featuring Daniel Foder on Electric Bass and Jared Tankel on Baritone Sax. “FK Strut” comes from the Fort Knox Five disc: Radio Free DC, produced by Sid Barcelona, Jon Horvath, Rob Myers and Steve Raskin.
