I've rejoined Tiki Central. Lost track of this forum after it stopped some time back. Good to be back home. Just to confirm my credentials here's a pic of me in a tshirt I had made with the image of one of my tiki themed paintings:

Aloha to all!

I haven’t been active on here in a looonng time, and it seems the usual gang I talked to hasn’t come back. How do we invite everyone back?

Welcome back Thurston! Potato. I don't think there is a mass mailing type notification but you can reach out to anyone you know personally and remind them

I’ve tried, but apparently like me for the last several years, no one is checking messages. Let’s throw a Tiki Central party, and they all seem to find their way.

Most of the old guard have moved on, unfortunately

Hello Potato. I had thought about that a while ago and brought up an idea to leevigraham. There might be some privacy issues with my idea, but, not sure. I realized that Tiki Central gives you the choice, of whether to be notified if you receive a message or not. So, there are lots of members who (potentially) have several message from friends that they don't know wrote to them. My idea is to turn on notifications to all accounts, and send a message to all registered members to the affect of something like: "Your notifications are now active on your Tiki Central account. I you wish to turn off your notifications, please go to your account to deactivate."

I think it would do a few things, it would be a lot of work for Leevi; It would send a message to all the email accounts, and ping back to admin (Leevi) all the undeliverable emails in the system (more work for Leevi); notify everyone that has an active email that Tiki Central is alive again (if they didn't already know); probably generate a bit of buzz for a while; help people realize that they have some unread messages from friends; and then you could see how many people would write a post, or, get some metrics about how many people checked into their account.

One thing I used to look at is in the top corner was how many people were on TC at the moment. Out of personal interest I was taking a screen shot of that number once or twice a day. I'm not sure if that is of interest to anyone?? Would we want to see if that is something to ask Leevi to look into adding back to the website? Your thought leevigraham.

Also Hamo came up with the idea to do a Tiki Central meetup at Tiki Oasis San Diego a few years back. There was about 20 people (I think), and it was fun to meet some members that I had written to but never met. Not sure if he is going to do another one this year??

While explaining the history to my daughter after three cocktails at Trader Vics Tōkyō I realised I’ve never actually sent a were back online email to all members.

At the time I think that was because there were 1000s of spam members. I’ve since cleaned up the db and deleted those accounts so the numbers may be more accurate.

When I get back from my holiday I think I’ll:

  1. Do another DB clean
  2. Send an email to all remaining members
  3. Check emails that bounce and mark those members as inactive
  4. Do another round of cleanups deleting inactive members that have no posts and no private messages that haven’t logged in.

PineappleWhip, you always give me far too much credit. All I did was say, "Hey, looks like the 20th anniversary of Tiki Central is approaching," and you put together a massive celebration. And in 2023, I said, "Maybe some TC people might want to get together at Tiki Oasis," and you made the party happen in your room. I am just some moron in the middle of the country, far from most tiki epicenters, and you are the man of action.

leevigraham, I support your plan to contact users. Also, I am jealous of your trip to Japan and the Tokyo Vic's, so I hope you post something about it here.

GROG hope this gets more of the old Tiki Centalites to post again. GROG miss those days. And GROG used to look at the number to see how many people were signed in and the info that showed the most popular threads.

Well Hamo as it was said in Lawrence of Arabia "Big Things Have Small Beginnings". I applaud your great ideas !! :) I also look forward to seeing you at Tiki Oasis this year. It's always great to see you, and hang out.

Cheers !!

All you have to do to set me straight is to quote a classic movie....

I am really looking forward to getting together again, too. Not long now.

Also, welcome back, Thurston Howell IV and Potato.
