IMG_8180

hang10tiki he's a doll. Will he hang in that position, or will the rope be at the top of his head?

Yes he will, I was thinking the necklace would go through the arm

Just need to finish him by working on the neck and face

That will work. Looking forward to the tweak.

Well

Sad news

CY is out of this one

Come on tiki people start posting. So far, it's a 3-way.

Sorry guys, I was out of the country. Well technically, Missouri is not out of the country but it seemed like another world LOL
Looks awesome Hang10Tiki! The red tongue looks great, good call. Sorry to here CY won't be joining us

27 July is almost here

pennjones my entire tiki career started with Sculpey clay. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Sculpty is so versatile, have fun!

IMG_8964

Hoping it's at least 4!!!

I’m reaching out to a mighty fine carver in Florida to see if he wants to jump in

LOL

Good news, he just finished his necklace this morning, and he said he will ship it anywhere in the world. I thought it looked a bit heavy, but he said it’s not.

Here it is standing tall next to him

I'm excited but it will be more like being hung from a tiki rather than a tiki being hung around my neck.

LOL, crazy Will!

Lookin' good pennjones!!!

pennjones I love tikis with skulls. This is going to be really good.

Awesome

I 3D printed this Marquesan U'u War Club Swizzle today
image000000

Without the stick and printed a little bigger it could make a cool pendant. Here's the steps to make it. 3D printing may not a legitimate art form but not always as simple as downloading a model and printing it. I've always enjoyed the Marquesan U'u War Club. I looked for an existing 3D model but didn't find one so I made one.

Found this image of an U'u
U'u 00

Ran it through a image to 3D program and it gave me this. Not too bad but has a few problems
U'u 01

The side view shows it is too thin
U'u 02

Then there's this "face" The bottom part looks like Jimmy Durante's nose. The two on top look like the upside down genitals on Michelangelo's David.
U'u 03

So I sliced off that face
U'u 04

I thought Tangaroa faces would be good there but couldn't find a ready made Tangaroa. So I ran this pic through the 3D software.
U'u 05

The Tangaroa actually turned out pretty good without any modification. I'll keep him for further use,
U'u 06

Cut off the Tangaroa head and put it on the U'u.
U'u 07

Added a stick to make a swizzle.
U'u 08

Will work on making a pendant this afternoon

Added one more pendant to the pile... 20250712_081900

I didn't completely forget about the Swap just pulled away- will be going to get some Sculpey (I think) today and doing some drawings....

Mad Dog, you have gone completely mad and I'm beyond impressed by your 3d Printing Wizardry... makes me really want to get one now, lol. Each one is incredible.

Wendy, oh my gosh, love the painting and so impressed, as always, with the depth you're able to create. :)

Jon, holy moly- pretty darn cool.

Mad Dog, yes I think the Goonies screening is today, I had wanted to go and take my boy but we're (of course) going to a ball game. There is a "Goonies" themed bar up in San Clemente, it's a lot of fun if you and Teresa ever head up there ("Lost Inferno")...

Okay, time to start drawing/ planning/ shopping....

Tiki Ano, thank you very much. Happy you are coming on board.

MadDogMike that's my favorite so far. It's a wow!

TikiAno, glad to see you jumping in!
Yeah that 3D printer is a lot of fun. They have gotten much more affordable (the one I have runs for about $300). There is still a learning curve but they are also closer to plug n play.
Teresa and I have been to Lost Inferno, nice little place. We were there a couple years ago and they didn't serve any kind of food (one of my pet peeves LOL) at the time. Hopefully they have taken care of that?

Thank you danlovestikis <3

PennJones, looks fantastic!

I admit to never having worked with Sculpey, and bought some to play around with (FIMO brand, just because there were better color options available)- and apparently I haven't played with any clay-like material in a while. I messed around for a little bit just to get my hands loose...

IMG_7689

While I may use some of the beads, I had never oven-baked clay (unless a kiln counts), there's more to come- and more planning as it was actually more challenging to work with than clay- PLUS I need to get my real clay tools out of storage rather than the cheap plastic set I bought at Michaels...

Mad Dog, I went a few months ago, and while there's no food at Inferno (that I remember), there's a really good hand roll sushi place upstairs above Lost Inferno, with some excellent Japanese whiskey and whiskey cocktails...

That 3D printing world is completely crazy- I've thought about getting one- especially for our yard halloween installs- but think it's a dangerous road for me to go down on... haha- I'm shocked/ impressed/ terrified of the still image to 3d rendering that you showed- though the output is insane. Wow.

TikiAno, looks like it's all coming back to you now (do you prefer the Celine Dion or Meatloaf version?) Polymer Clay is fun because of the colors. Especially since you and blend, swirl, cane, etc the colors. Also nice that you can cook it in your home oven and be done in 30 minutes.

"...there's a really good hand roll sushi place upstairs above Lost Inferno..." That's the crazy part. I think the sushi restaurant upstairs is the same owner. Seems like they could find a way to use the kitchen upstairs somehow. I'd be happy with some basic, prepackaged sushi. Or bags of Hawaiian Kettle Chips. Food safety rules probably make that impossible. I'm sure you know more about that than I do.

Maybe here it's more Phil Collins ('take a look at me nowwww")??

Yes, well, even though they are the same owners, in the same building, they are "officially" different businesses. I agree, I like food available in places, especially with stronger drinks (my biggest complaint about False Idol in San Diego- well, aside from the actual drinks, but that's another story lol). It's not a food safety thing but more of a permit thing... anyway, yes, I'm excited to try to combine some colors to see what I can do with the Fimo... and not having to score and slip with oven baked clay is a surprise!

I have some other ideas to try to work on as well...
