QUESTION: Tiki in LAS VEGAS??

Besides Venus at The Venetian, does anyone know of any Tiki-themed restaurants or bars in Las Vegas? Thanks, Batfink.

Kinda slim pickins.

The Atrium Bar at the mirage has a nice "should have been Tiki" ambience. It was a Reggae bar for a while! Worth strolling through the trees and water.

Tut's Hut at Luxor is too pitiful to bother with a visit, but they make OK Volcano Drinks.

Kahuna's (I think it's called that) at Treasure Island is "Jimmy Buffet style "Tiki"", and is only a stroll across the bridge from Venus. I would say on the Tiki Scale, it would rank as "Desperate and it's closing time" in terms of desirability.

Hamata on Flamingo Road is Japanese, but has a little (little) Tiki ambience.

The Plantation Hawaiian resturaunt on Eastern Blvd. is NOT Tiki.

Tiki here must be stolen in small battles:

Cleopatra's Barge at Ceasar's Palace is a floating bar.

Rum Jungle at Mandalay Bay has about 60 kinds of rum, and they know how to make a Mojito. They serve conch and plantains, too.

The pool areas at Hard Rock and Mandalay Bay have lotsa palm trees and beach areas.

Sorry, that's about all that pops into my brain right now.

As far as I'm aware, Taboo Cove is about it as far as bars go, but here's some other spots that you may find worth a visit:

Sunset Park
One of the statues carved by Eli Hedley for Aku Aku at the Stardust has been relocated to the middle of the pond at Sunset Park.

Hawaiian Hot Luau
April-October, the kinda cruddy Imperial Palace casino presents a "Polynesian Revue" -- your basic floor show, held poolside with an accompanying all-you-can-eat buffet. I haven't been there, can't vouch for it.

Red Rooster Antique Mall
This large antique mall always has a few tiki finds here and there -- make sure you check out our own Tiki Lee's booth, you'll know it when you see it.

Don't think it's open yet, and it's a Buffet place (Hail Iz, full of poi, hallowed by thy uke), but if you're desperate to view a tiki, they may have some here.

This has been open for a few years.
I visited in 2002 and in 2003.

IN SPITE of the fact that this place is owned by Buffet (or something like that)...

and IN SPITE of the fact that it's in a shi-shi mall....

and IN SPITE of the fact that their food sucks (and they brag that it's "The best burger in Vegas")...

This place has a huge collection of Hawaianna and a fair number of small Tikis, and is worth poking your head into.

IN SPITE of the fact that this place is owned by Buffet (or something like that)...

It is open. Went there during Mondo Tiki. They have a killer Hawaiiana collection.Mugs galore! Who told "you all" that it is a Buffet bar? It's just called Cheeseburger.

I see, I was all mixed up. Jimmy Buffet is building a Margaritaville, at the Flamingo, that was due to open a couple of weeks ago. Buffett does, of course, also have a Cheeseburger in Paradise chain... I just got mixed up between that and Cheeseburger at the Oasis. Which is not related to the Buffet chain. Whew!

I've never been, but does the California hotel & casino downtown have any tiki?

Also, when mentioning pools, the Mirage hotel is supposed to be a SouthSeas paradise.

You may have to bring your own tiki mugs with you to always make up for the bars' tiki shortcomings.

also - NOT tiki, but totally worth going for the ambience is the still original interior Benihana at the Hilton (formerly the International Hotel). it's very asian tropical complete with an occasional rainfall!
Remember odds are that Elvis probably ate here when he lived at this hotel many moons ago :)

HELLO! Tropicana! I hate to say there is little or no Tiki but the rooms are all decked out in Bamboo and the pool area is pretty "palmy". Sad to hear I have caught wind of a nasty rumour that looks to be true - they are closing at the end of the year and teraing down the old one to make room for a new improved Trop. Sniff - one of the last old casino's left. As Alec Baldwin said in the Cooler about the strip- it's a Disnelyland Mookfest out there!!!

Hey also, didn't I hear about a new Bar in the Rio? Freinds just came back from there and got me a new shirt with a Witch Doctor on it from the new bar.

Rooftop bar with live music. Excellent view and cool vibes. Get there by 10, lines form thereafter. Dig the dayglow murals on the inside.

A shame the Tropicana is going to be torn down, but when I visited it last, it seemed to have lost some of its charm. Atleast the Sahara is still there - with the Rat Pack review. (and very affordable - albeit in an inconvenient location).

Pretty interesting drink menu, too, and bartenders who juggle bottles and shit. Okay, they don't actually jugle shit, but they do juggle other things besides bottles.

Tropicana being torn Down? Thats what they get for angering the Tiki gods by Removing all the tikis they had.

Oh, I think you're right. I guess I girured maybe the various locations of this chain had interchangeable names, sorta like how Trader Vics was sometimes The Traders, and Kon Tiki Ports was Ports o' Call, and some of the locations actually switched from one name to the other...

So there's now TWO Cheeseburger at ___ chains?

Although not much on the tiki decor, the best tiki-type drinks I had in Las Vegas were at the Peppermill restaurant fireside lounge. They serve really good reasonably priced drinks in a 70's style atmosphere. Try their scorpion--it was only about $10 and was served in a huge glass that could easily serve 4 and very tasty. I don't think it was on the menu so you have to ask for it. By the way, I thought Venus was disappointing--overcrowded with college kids getting the nightly beer special, had to pay $28 dollars for a scorpion bowl there, and bartender had never heard of demarera rum! It is worth a look at least once to check out the decor but not worth hanging out for too long.

I read an article in the paper today about a "Hawaiian Village" of some sort being built in Las Vegas. Resembeling the International Market Place. Is this true?

Just got back from a crazy weekend in Vegas and saw the construction going on at the Hawaiian Village. I was also wondering if anyone had info on this. It is on the strip in front of the Polo Towers (I Think). There is a wall set up in front of the construction with Tikis painted on it. The eyes are cut out and it says "Take A Sneaky Through The Tiki". Not much to see yet but a huge fake tree being built.

Are the Polo Towers located across from the Aladdin, home of the Desert Passage Mall with Cheeseburger in Paradise- are there trimaran carts in the mall?

Polo Towers has a very little known bar on the top floor with what i think is THE best views of the strip. shhhhhh don't tell anyone.

drinks are medium priced and marginal and served in cheesy plain plastic cups... but oh that view.

Kitty and I are just back from marrying off our daughter in Las Vegas. The Hawaiian Hot Luau at the Imperial Palace is still out of season but the poolside bar, adjacent to the luau area is open. The Shangri-La Bar is decorated in thatch and bamboo with familiar plastic and fibergass tiki wall hangings. Without investing alot of money they have a little tiki bar going. You are supposed to have a hotel key to get poolside but the traffic in and out makes it easy to get in during the heat of the day.
Don't expect a great cocktail or other trappings of good tiki bars.

what's up with the new "tiki torch" penny slots!?!?! I saw them every where...

Also, in Summerlin there is a really nice Roy's resaurant, and at the marriott on rampart, there is a luau night at the buffet on tuesday night, no decor, per say, but yummy food!

Looks promising - there are numerous palm trees up in the plaza and I can only hope that it will be illuminated by some tiki torches, although still under construction.

I appears as if it will be part of a buffet-style restaurant.

Kc-kitty is right about Peppermill: great drinks, including tropical ones. On-menu is something called a Blue Hawaiian, served in a big hurricane. I usually avoid blue curacao drinks because they have a tendency to be overly sweet and not very strong, but Peppermill's tastes great and kicks. Great food there, too, but no tiki.
