Best Western Tiki Motel?

Pages: 1 7 replies

I just casually glanced over at my tv during a commercial break on CNN and there was a Best Western commercial on that flashed a very tiki looking A frame motel - reminded me of the Caliente Tropics (but it obviously wasn't that). It's the commercial that features the song, "Dancing in the Moonlight" in the background.

It was so quick... Was I imagining things - or does anyone know what I saw?

Isn't there a Best Western with a Moai up in Daytona near the Hawaiian Inn? I think I saw that when I was up there last time, but my recollections are still kinda blurry!!!

Cheers!

I spotted a pack of 'vintage' looking matches on the ground a while back; what caught my eye was the combination of letters at the end of the Best Western motel's name "####esian".

Well, after further examination I noticed that it's address was 650 No Mollison Ave in El Cajon, CA. The hotel name was The Mollinesian Motel!

What a bastardization of Polynesian - combine the street name with polynesian. Bastards!

Anyway, it was a tiki-style hotel at one time.

I found it (I think) and it looks pretty cool! The Island Palms Hotel & Marina in San Diego could be the one.

Yeah,
Thats on Shelter Island, right by the Bali Hai, next to Humphries. Shelley's mom stayed their once and we hung out by the pool, which was really very nice and tropical.

Sabu recently picked up a postcard from this place - maybe he'll post a pic?

Myself and others had good things to say about the Island Palms: http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=3838&forum=1
