tiki in Zippy

A Moai tiki mug made an appearance in the first panel of yesterday's 'Zippy' comic strip - along with mentions of being outsniped on ebay.

my brother has corresponded with bill griffith regarding huge roadside architecture. seems like a nice guy. i would not be suprized if he has browsed through tiki central on occasion...

Well then at least he vists the best places for his inspiration.

I have sent Bill Griffith photographs of some of my roadside trips - most notably, a location in western Wisconsin that fabricates and sells those giant fiberglass advertising figures. Griffith later based some of his Zippy comic panels on those pictures. The following link is for two of those strips (he gives thanks to me in tiny letters in the middle panels)

Of the many small victories one experiences in life, having my name in a Zippy comic strip has been one of my personal favorites - and one of those thrills that many people do not quite understand. I may send him some other pictures of tiki signs that I have.

Vern I think you should suggest to him to have Zippy go on a pilgrmage to find the lost moai, and then he can stop in wis. at the BONG recreation area. HEHEHEHE

I sometimes get the creeps when I read Zippy, but I read it none the less. That giant Dachsund sign is the main culprit. I have no idea what the artist is trying to say, but whatever it is, it's working. That's one scary strip. It's journey into madness.

Are you referring to the Doggie Diner?

That's the one! I get hinky just look'in at it! I have nightmares about that kind'a stuff.

(Though, I'm a big Roadside America fan.)
