Surf / Instro shows????

Pages: 1 9 replies

Anyone know of any sites that list upcoming surf / instro band shows? I checked out Bombora.net, but didn't get much from there.

I've been into bands like the Ventures, Tornados, Chantays, Challengers, Eddie and the Showmen, Johnny Fortune, etc for as long as I can remember. I also remember years back when the surf revival came around is 1994 with Dick Dale and the movie Pulp Fiction. Back then, it seemed like there was a show going on all the time by bands like the Halibuts, Bomboras, Man or Astroman, etc. Nowadays there doesn't seem to be much of anything except Dick Dale. Does anyone have the low down on where there's some good surf music playin'?

The Cowabunga message board is the best place for info on upcoming shows:

Trader Woody is well up on his surf stuff. PM him.

Fifty Foot Combo are worth checking out.

There's also NESMA, the North East Surf Music Alliance, for those of you on the east coast. I beleive it is http://www.Nesma.org

My instro band, The Howlin' thurstons, is a member....

I agree with the recommendation of http://www.surfguitar101.com - the forums are very active and it's a great site to learn about new bands and upcoming shows and festivals. I run Double Crown Records, a surf music label up in Bellingham, WA. We put out about 3-5 CD's each year, mostly current surf/instro rock bands. Our latest releases have been by The Mobsmen (Norway), King Of Hawaii (Seattle), The Surfites (Sweden), The Concussions (Michigan) and The Madeira (Michigan/Indiana/California). Our website is http://www.doublecrownrecords.com. We've got a shop with our CD's as well as CD's from other labels throughout the world, 7"s and fanzines.

I think that Double Crown has been releasing some of the best cds coming out in the surf scene in the past few years.

good work Sean.
