What's up with cramming so many events into this time of year? First, the Hukilau is planned the same weekend as the Las Vegas Rockaround. Now there's Mondo Lounge only three weeks later. I propose having a Calendar (or at least a single topic) that shows all upcoming event dates for major events, including tiki events, and other events that may be of interest to members of Tiki Central, so that planners of events may be able to spread future events throughout the year. Of course it would also be handy for people to plan which events they are going to attend. This would be easier than having to scan through all the event topics to find out the date of an event. To start here are a few to be included: 9/23-9/25/04 - Hukilau, Fort Lauderdale Of course, this is just a start. Regular events like Tiki Torch Nights would be on the calendar as well. I welcome all comments and suggestions. |

good idea, Jabbo! IF it is done as a thread I propose that people ONLY post event info, not messages like "i can't wait to go to Hukilau" or "i don't like XYZ event because the rooms are too small". Just so the thread doesn't get filled with too many messages that aren't "calendar" related. Maybe make the topic "events-listings and dates only" or something like that---any ideas for a good title? |

You might check out http://www.retroradar.com They have a tiki specific calendar there, as well as several others. It's the former Atomic Magazine folks and they have been friendly to me. I just can't get it to post my events for me! |

Thanks, but their Calendar seems fairly useless as this month's tiki calendar doesn't have the Hukilau on it, and the live music calendar doesn't have the Rockaround on it. Besides, I hate the word "retro" I meant this particular topic as a discussion about a possible calendar here on Tiki Central for tiki and non-tiki events that may be of interest to our members. I didn't mean for this thread to be the actual calendar. If enough people think it's a good idea (especially Hanford), than perhaps we could start a calendar topic in Tiki Events, as mrsmiley suggested. But I think an actual calendar would be better. One consideration is who will be able to add, edit and delete events from a calendar. Will we have to get the moderators to approve changes? Please, I would like to hear more feedback on this idea. |

I think the Tiki Cal is a fine thought...the more idiot friendly the better...or the more likely I would use it. I often have free weekends at the last minute...and have overlooked things nearby. Top notch idea [ Edited by: Gigantalope on 2004-09-15 13:08 ] |

We could start a thread in Tiki Events dated 2020 so it's always at the top of the list. Then the first message would be a simple calendar listing everything coming up. If you have a new event to list, post it to the thread, and a moderator will copy and paste the info into the calendar in the first message. Then the moderator can delete your post so that it never gets cluttered. Just one simple message with all the info. Easy enough for all the moderators to peruse it and update it regularly. What do you think? |

Splendid idea! Hey martiki, I just noticed we're in a neck and neck race for number of posts. [ Edited by: thejab on 2004-09-15 14:45 ] [ Edited by: thejab on 2004-09-15 14:46 ] |

Most fabulous idea, ever! I hate having to search 15 different websites to see what's going on. One convenient location would be excellent! |

Oh yes. I agree with Dog too, a calendar-looking format would be the absolute best. Maybe have it so you can see event names on the day, then click on the day to open a more detailed view of the event info for that day(s). Awesome! |

Paging SugarCaddyDaddy to thread... Can these events be added to the Hoity Toity Schedule? I'd love to see a Calendar feature here, but I'm certain Hanford's busy enough that he doesn't have time to program it, and who's going to moderate it? A searchable Calendar, cross referenceable to posts about events, to Critiki for location info, or to outside websites for other info; searchable by Month, date, or keyword; updateable by members, but well moderated and altered or deleted only by original poster or moderator(s) to avoid spam & fights. Anyone volunteering to write it for Hanford? |
