Tiki Central / Other Events

To all oo-koo-LAY-lay players (and uke music aficianados)...

Pages: 1 5 replies

We've been kind of floating around the idea of a one or two day ukulele event in the central Florida area, preferably in the months when it's a bit colder in the northern climes, and people are looking for yet another excuse to get away from the cold, hang out, enjoy tropical drinks, lots of live music and like-minded folks who like to enjoy life in aloha shirts and flippahs!

Right now, we're just trying to see if there's any interest out there. Even if you don't play, it might be a great time to start?

Any TC'ers think they might be interested in attending something like this in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area of Florida? Maybe somewhere in the March/April timeframe?

It's all speculative right now, but just thought we'd run it up the flagpole, and see if anyone salutes. Depending on things, it may be too late to try an organize it for this coming spring, but then again, who knows? Could be fun!

Mahalo!

Funny enough, that's about the time frame I'll be putting on the next Surf In The Turf.

(Light bulb clicks.)

Do one night at an area hotel for the uke jam and one night at Skipper's for the band performances. Skipper's works with the Seminole Hard Rock Casino/Hotel, maybe get some synergy goin' there ...

And of course, we'd have to have a least a few tropical libations at the Lagoon Lounge (â„¢AlnShellyProductions).

We jam all the time here - my neighbors are used to it.

I'm in.

In fact, KGeoff was challenging me to do an event in Tampa - maybe we could combine forces and pick it up a bit.

send me an email: [email protected] or the other address you already have and let's chat.

Yo tweedtone and Pablus -- it sounds like y'all are listening to same voices that are in my head! :)

Let's all definitely talk about it, and kick around some ideas. Hell, maybe we should do a little mini "uke-jam/drink-a-thon" brainstorming session some weekend when nobody's doing much, and see if we can't map it out? I know that things can get complicated pretty quickly with logistical issues, collection of money, arranging venues, blah, blah, but some kind of Florida based Uke-A-Thon is definitely needed, and it's great to hear that others around here are into getting the ball rolling.

Haole Kats!!! have a big weekend this week with three gigs Fri/Sat/Sun, as well as studio time recording more tracks for the CD, but let's all talk some more. We're sitting gigless next weekend (23/24), so it might be a good time to hook up and toss around some ideas maybe? If that's not good for anyone, let's hook up via email in the meantime.

A hui hou,
Kanekila

I'd like to hook up sometime next week that's not a weekend.

That way, tweedtone can surely make it.

What about I host a little uke/acoustic guitar party here at the Lagoon Lounge sometime between October 18th and October 22nd? I'm planning on making Kiliki's Torch night in ATL on the the 23rd.

I can make a couple of fantastic bowls for us to drink from and some great food as well AND I always do at least one vegetarian dish.

I'm thinking Sabu's Spicy Coconut Chicken skewers, some vege/pineapple fried rice, some raw fish salad and lots of fruits and nuts.

Also a Scorpion bowl, a Meihana bowl and some test pilots for the brave.

Send me an email and I'll send you my number and let's make it happen.

Oh yeah - bring some swimmies.

HK

Pablus,
I just sent you an e-mail with our numbers...we're all at Kanekila's today working on tracks, so try us there first...we'll be going until 6 or 7 at least.
