BCM, gotta say I loved the first one, looking forward to the second one, and hopefully many more after that. I enjoyed reading the comments and the responses about the whole thing past and present. And the next time you need to get our buddy Gecko as a really cool hawaiian tiki carver in your book along with his drink the Spotted Gecko that is served at the La Mariana Bar. But hey stay true to what you are doing it works and as a long time comic collector it is great to see a great adult book being done with a tropical flavor.

Mahalo, Toa.

We're having fun, and we hope the readers are, too.

Hey, my local comic book store is just waiting to throw one in my little file.
They'd better...it's the only thing I have IN my collection file.

Thanks BCM! Can't wait!

The book came out today! Glowing reviews so far, so I hope you cats managed to track down a copy!

I'm going to be on a quest to find mine tomorrow... I don't really even know where the comic stores are, but I'm determined to find it.

T

Humu,

Golden Apple is a pretty decent comic book store.
There is one at 7711 Melrose Ave.

And there is one in the back of Rhino Records @ 2028 Westwood Blvd.

If you find it, could you get me one?

I'd love ya forever.

Vegas BABY!

H

You got it, toots.

T

Wow your fast!

I just got mine and have to say that it is certainly worth the wait in the comic book store...standing around with a bunch of board game kids, trekkies and 40 year olds still living with their mom to get it!

AWESOME COMIC! Makes me feel like a grade school kid!

Can't wait for the next issue!

Thanks, guys. It's important to me that the Tiki Nation digs it.

As for the second issue...I'd give it just over a month.

Is it a reissued, a new one ?

V

I picked up mine last Wednesday, it was well worth the wait! Great story. Can't wait for the others to come out.
I think I drove my hubby crazy shouting "Look! A tiki! Oh! look there's three more!"

Hey, all...for those who CAN'T find it in a local comic shop (or who can't find a local comic shop at all), you can order the book here:

http://www.mycomicshop.com/megastore/search.cfm?qry=hawaiian%20dick&pcat=Comics-All

You can buy the first trade at Amazon, as well, for a decent discount:

What's the latest on the movie?

The screenwriters are scheduled to get started next week, fils.

Without getting my hopes too high, I'm curious to see their progress!

Finally got a moment to sit down and read the first installment from The Last Resort. Beautiful! I'm going to keep saying this until every single one of you tikiphiles has read this series--go get it! It's not that hard to find, the teeny comic store in my neighborhood had both the first series in graphic novel form (Hawaiian Dick: Byrd of Paradise) and this new book. The artwork and story is quite immersive, and it's gorgeous, too. Congrats on another work well done!

Hey, it's the end of October and my local comic book store file is gathering cobbwebs. Everytime I enter the store, the guy behind the counter looks up at me from behind his "Zeena, Spaceage Warrior Jello Wrestler" comic for a split second only to shake his head, before burying his own back into the depths of female space rangers in heat. (He obviously doesnt care to offer any information that he may or may not have.)

I can't seem to find any news on the release of Issue #2.

Anyone know whats going on?

I just got word from my local comic shop that they will have Hawaiian Dick, The Last Resort #2 of 4 next Wednesday the 3rd of November! Check your local shops, they should be getting them next week too!

Cheers!

Thanks TW. I got word from Clay a couple days ago that it was being released next week also.

At least you have a comic book store guy who will tell you something! Mine just looks at me. Mayeb if I was in a Star Wars outfit he'd give me some attention!

I'm looking forward to getting the next issue.

L

just picked up issue # 3 today.

T

#3 ? when did #2 come out?

Did I not see it? Damn, this means I need even thicker specs!!!

[ Edited by: filslash 2008-09-13 11:37 ]

Any news yet on when #3 is out?

[ Edited by: filslash 2008-09-13 11:39 ]

I talked with Clay online late last week. He stated that there had been some problem with something...I can't remember...the coloring department, maybe?

Clay was very apologetic and said that they hoped to have the next issue out 'soon'. He didn't give me any time specification.

I guess they are just trying to build the suspense.

[ Edited by: filslash 2008-09-13 11:49 ]

Okay, just talked with Clay again...he said he'll try to drop in here as soon as he gets some time.

But basicly, they do not have any release date set for issue #3. Clay says they have "been beset by delay after delay after delay."

He added that he was not sure when the next issue would be released, "to be honest, but it's underway."

Hopefully, he will drop in and give you guys some more details.

Just wanted to update the curious among us!

Fil, I think you and I are the only two remotely concerned about what happens to Dick in the next issue.
Everyone else has forgotten and / or lost interest...including Clay. But I know he was working on his other comic too.

I know he's a busy guy, but I can't believe that he hasnt dropped in to give us some word. I mean, in all fairness, he certainly takes time to chat with you when you find him online. Hellofa nice guy.

Lets hope he hasnt forgotten about us.

I've been waiting for the book version. I prefer to read the whole thing at one sitting myself.

Guys-

I've been working for the past year as Image Comics' marketing director, on a full-time basis, and that's sucked up way too much of my time. I'm about to go back to full-time freelance writing, and I plan to spend more time here when I do!

Oh, man, if you only knew how much it drives me crazy that HAWAIIAN DICK #3 isn't out yet. In all honesty, it's due to trouble with the artists. I lost two artists who were scheduled to draw the book, so original artist Steven Griffin is slated to draw it once again. But he's in Australia, and communication has been a problem.

He was just nominated for Best Colorist again for the work he DID do on the book, but I don't have a firm release date for #3.

There is a black and white Hawaiian Dick short story in an upcoming anthology called NEGATIVE BURN. I'll try to post that one online and share it with you.

Hawaiian Dick movie plans are progressing well, for what it's worth.

Mahalo-
Clay

Glad to see that Clay dropped in to update us.
I chatted with him online the other day and he says they still have no release date in sight for issue #3. Guess we'll just have to keep waiting.

Hopefully, he will pull this all together.

Funny books that will (hopefully) be released by Image Comics in November -

HAWAIIAN DICK: THE LAST RESORT #3 (of 4) (RES)
written by B. CLAY MOORE
art & cover by STEVEN GRIFFIN

The follow-up to the critically acclaimed HAWAIIAN DICK finally gets back on track this month as some loose ends are tied together while others unravel. The FBI makes its presence known, and a hungover Byrd confronts the crime families with information regarding their motivations. Meanwhile, Mo prepares for a date with man-eating sharks, and a sunbathing Kahami encounters (a deceased?) Stew Mulligan.

Yawn
I'll believe it when I see it.

I just made up my own ending to the story. Everything worked out just fine and Hawaiian Dick saved the day. The end.

B

Amazed that the series will be over be the end of the year - unless the 4th issue is canceled again. Me? i'm waiting for the trade...

HAWAIIAN DICK: THE LAST RESORT #4 (of 4) (RES)
written by B. CLAY MOORE
art & cover by STEVEN GRIFFIN

Things go from bad to really, really bad as rival gangs tear through the Last Resort in a revenge match for the ages. Complicating matters are the angry spirits of Hawaiian dead, risen from their graves and evidently impervious to gangland bullets. Byrd, Mo and Kahami focus on one goal: escaping alive before the entire bay explodes in a bullet-fueled spectacle of supernatural fury.
