Anyone interested in going to re-opening of the Enchanted Tiki Room in Disneyland? Approx Sat Mar 12

Pages: 1 2 60 replies

MT

I'm surprised that no one has listed this event yet. Any Tiki-Centralites interested in getting together for the re-opening of the Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland? The tentative re-opening date is March 12, but I'm sure we will have a more finite date as the event approaches.

Maybe we can tie in a trip to see "Shag With A Twist", or make a trip to the Tiki Ti, or Purple Orchid, etc. Anyone interested?

Note - Edited to change date to Saturday March 12.

as long as i'm not blocked out on my annual passport - i might come?

Sign myself and Rocknrollgirl up. The happiest place on earth is gonna get a hell of a lot happier.

We'll definitely be there- just waiting until the official word on the opening day. We'll be at DL the weekend it opens!

Yes, indeed! We'll be there!

4:30 a.m.??? Are you guys still jetlagged?

I'm going to take that day (whichever day ends up being opening day) off from work to be there.

I'm definitely going. I was thinking of a Sam's run after the opening which would proably be during the day anyway.

Tikiphantom

We will be there Saturday the 12 but not on Friday. Mrs. Lava is escorting a group of 16 Japanese girls around LA with Disneyland all day Saturday. (But they ditch us Saturday and go all over the park alone. We just become emergency contacts.) Mr. Lava is going along for the free trip.

FYI - our insider Tiki Cutie reports the March 11 opening may be delayed:

Mr smiley and I might check it out weekend of 4/9 if I end up being in town that week for biz! Or even if not...

MT

According to the calendar on Disneyland's website, the Enchanted Tiki Room is closed through Friday March 11, and is scheduled to open on Saturday March 12. The cast members at guest relations also confirmed that so far this date hasn't changed.

But yeah, that could be a tall order since the place is so torn up right now during it's refurbishment. But you never know, they could put the pedal to the metal, and finish that puppy up on time - a lot of construction projects often look the darkest before dawn, and then BAM! they fall into place all at once at the end.

I know that Disney is really pressing hard to get everything all spiffed up for the big anniversary celebration on May 5. So it really surprised me that they would also re-do the Disneyland Railroad, especially this close to May. And when I say re-do the Disneyland Railroad, I mean re-do the Railroad - they have torn the tracks out completely in some spots! Check out this pic from MiceAge, which can be found on this page:
http://www.miceage.com/allutz/al012805a.htm

And the tentative re-opening date for the Disneyland Railroad is Friday March 18. If they can make that deadline, then they'll hopefully be able to make the March 12 deadline for the Enchanted Tiki Room. So let's all hope for the March 12 date, but also be prepared for them to push that date back if needed.

Why May 5 instead of July 17 (the real anniversary date)?

mousesavers.com has some good tips on how to save money. the best way is to do a package deal of disney/friend hotel and entrace - the daily rate for one park is STEEP but since it's hard to do the Big D in just one day, it makes sense to pay the $100 or whatever it is for a 2 or 3 day pass to both parks.

I think too if you know a So Cal resident, they can purchase a cheaper "resident" discount ticket and up to 3 or 4 non-resident "guests" at the same price - but they need to be there in person when you buy that day to show proof of local residency. Unless they've changed that policy - it's been a few years since I've done it that way with a So Cal friend.

It is because of all the leap years in between--it threw the calendar off!

ok-I know that doesn't make any sense-I just made it up!

Have a nice Tiki Day!

Maybe because they want to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in a special way?

Orrrr maybe because they think it will be less crowded, knowing that it's also the first day of Oasis...

Hmmmm...

TB

Getting the annual pass this year, will definitely be there for the opening!

The celebration for the 50th Anniversary starts on May 5. In fact, Disneyland will be closed on May 4 to put the finishing touches on everything, and I guess set up special displays, etc.

The official date for Disneyland's 50th Anniversary is indeed July 17. But if they started the celebration on that date, then that would cut out some profit earning months of May, June, and half of July. I'm sure the celebration festivities will be a big draw for Disney, and they want to start those festivities as early as possible. And I believe the celebration runs through November.

When I called and asked about the re-opening date of the Enchanted Tiki Room, I also asked if there would be something special going on at Disneyland on July 17. The Disney cast member said that indeed there would be, but it was still in the planning stages and hadn't been finalized yet. They said check back in March, and they should know by then what the special events for July 17 would be.

Costco in Southern California has a good deal for Southern California residents. It's a multi day pass, I think it was a 4 day pass, but I don't think it was a park hopper - you could enter and re-enter one park per day (that means if you went to both Disneyland AND California Adventure on the same day, then you would be using up two days on your ticket - but if you just went to Disneyland only on one day, you could enter and re-enter that same park as many times as you needed that day, and it would only use up one day). But I do remember that the ticket was really cheap! I wrote down the details, I will have to scrounge around here and post them once I find them. There was a certain date that you had to use the tickets by, so I will find out what that was as well.

There is another pass that Costco is currently offering, and it is the Southern California City Pass. It includes a 3 day parkhopper pass to both Disneyland and California Adventure, 1 day admission to Knott's Berry Farm, 1 day admission to Sea World in San Diego, and 1 day admission to either the San Diego Zoo or the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park. The cost for adults is $149.99,
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?prodid=10042654&whse=&topnav=&cat=&s=1

and $114.99 for children ages 3 through 9,
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=10042655&whse=BC&topnav=&cat=4835&hierPath=111*4835*

The only catches seem to be that once you activate the pass, you have 14 days to use it up before it expires, and "First day of use of any ticket in the Southern California CityPass booklet must occur by March 31, 2005." So as long as the Enchanted Tiki Room opens sometime in March, then that should work for most people, especially if they want to go on an extended vacation and visit a lot of the theme parks in SoCal.

Also, AAA has some pretty good deals for AAA members. Their deals are always changing, but I will also investigate what they are offering. The last time I bought tickets through AAA (last July), they were offering a 2 day parkhopper pass for $98, and this included parking.

Woo, thanks for the info!

I'm a cinquentle A member (AA and AAA), so I will have to check that out.

I've got cousins that work there, but considering I haven't talked to them in 5 years, I think it would be a bit brash of me to ask for tix.

A

The Cinco de Mayo date was chosen because....
They needed to start the celebration early. In fact, it is lasting more than a year. They chose the May 5 date because of the numbers. You see, it is the 50th anniversary and that date is 50 backwards 3 times: 05-05-05. Get it? I know it's silly, but they also thought people would remember 05-05-05 better than some other random date.
Your friend,
Louis

Okay, we are 3 and a half weeks from the scheduled re-opening date for the Enchanted Tiki Room. So far according to Disney's calendar the scheduled re-opening date is still Saturday March 12. Does anyone have any inside info on if the folks at Disneyland are still going to make this deadline? Any news for us Tiki Cutie?

It looks like the date's been slipped a week, as noted by:

I'm still planning on buying a new deluxe annual pass & being there on whatever weekend they reopen the ETR.

T

This is good news for me - as I have to be in Arizona the weekend of the 12th! I really do want to be there with my family...

I got the year pass this year, I'll probably be there for the opening too! I always wanted to slip in one of my necklaces in the Tiki room, but always chickened out. So then I could say I did some carvings for the Enchanted Tiki room! Maybe with the cover of all you, we could pull it off? It would be like an offering of a wood tiki necklace to the resin ones... okay guess not

Can the first post of this thread be updated do the actual date is solidified as soon as we know? cause i really want to be there and i just doublechecked and March 12th is NOT a blockout date for my pass - so I am IN.

[ Edited by: Futura Girl on 2005-02-25 05:34 ]

MonkeyBoy and I will definitely be there!

Are we all wearing ETR shirts: the T-shirts & Shag shirts....? Or perhaps an all out hawaiian shirt blitz?

Yes, I will most definitely do that as soon as we know the date. I have been closely monitoring the date, and watching the calendar on Disney's website as well. In fact, I've already changed the date once, because we all thought that the re-open date was scheduled for March 11, but it's not - it's scheduled for Saturday March 12.

However, the only catch is, we might not have a firm commitment on the re-opening date from Disney until that second week of March. Frustrating? Yes!

MT

So I called Disneyland again on Friday afternoon, and they said that so far the re-opening date is scheduled for Saturday March 12. That is one week away, my peeps!

Well this is ironic - my pirate group is planning a trip to DLand on the 13th! They have been harrassing me to go... it is too bad it can't be the the 12th - then I could appear as a Hoity Toity AND as a Port Royal Privateer! (perhaps wear my pirate hat with a tiki shirt?) I told them I didn't know if I could go due to work... so same goes here, and if I don't make it, I'll be there in spirit. Is there any kind of a head count? I'd be coming solo so I'd feel better if not everyone was already paired off. Also how are you guys going to meet up? You need to pick out a meeting place or trade cell phone numbers or something. Yes, it SURE IS expensive to go... many of the pirates have yearly passes - I am going to have to check into that because it is normally about $50 just to walk through the DLand gate (and that is ONE gate, not both parks gates!)

T

Alia and I will be in DL the following weekend, the 18th to 20th. If anyone wants to join us for a second Tiki Room fest. I think AlnShely are in. Anyone else....Dr.Z? Sabu?

Mike, I'll join you guys as well. That is, if you guys go on either the 18th or 20th. I have the Deluxe Pass and Saturday blockouts begin on the 19th for that.

A

Cool!!! I'm in
Mahalo,
Al

DZ

We can make the 19th or 20th, but only during the evening. DolphinTiki works on Saturdays, and the 20th is the Long Beach Swap Meet. Howz that?

T

We have to head home Sunday afternoon, so it looks like Friday or Saturday night! Can't wait!! :)

Well if its Friday night count me in! I get off work at 3pm so I'll be able to get there by 3:30. If you all are going to the park earlier than that I'll hook up y'all via celfone.

A

Fri is good. What do you guys say?
Al

M

So what day have you agreed upon? Friday March 18th?

T

Don't know if Friday night will work for Dr.Z and Dolphin...?

A

Yeah I missread that I thought he was free on Fri. Sunday?
Mahalo,
Al

i was still planning on going on the 12th... is anyone else going that date? if that indeed still is the official re-opening date?

[ Edited by: Futura Girl on 2005-03-08 02:37 ]

MT

As far as I know, Saturday March 12 is still the official re-opening date. I was planning on going, but now my work schedule might not allow for it, and my fiance will definitely not be able to go at all.

Anyone else from the Bay Area still planning on going this Saturday March 12?

[ Edited by: Mai Tai on 2005-03-09 12:26 ]

This is so exciting! Fraid I can't make the opening, but I know I'll be there sometime soon. I've always loved the Tiki Room as a kid and, of course, as an adult. A trip to Dizneelan wouldn't be the same without visiting the Tiki Room!

Me: LA LA LA, wanna go to disneyland but have no concept of time, LA LA LA!

Work: MUAHAHAHA! I Will reschedule so Blair can NEVER go to DISNEYLAND!

A talking banana: I am a talking banana

Me: NOOOOOO!!!!

So, I have to work that weekend. bummer. Then, my parents are going down the next weekend. Augh! Leave some mugs and shirts on the shelves, if'n ya don't mind.

I am there on the 12th!

TB

Planning on going the 12th & the 19th, what times on each day?

TBird.

I'll be there!
