Oh Little Town of Tikiland

Oh little town of Tikiland
We see your spirits rise
Inside the huts the noisy nuts
Are drinking up mai tais
Yet in the dark back corner
Another jug of rum
So pour a round and make some sounds
Cause Tiki Day has come

second verse anyone?

Futura Girl,

Excellent idea. I'm going to freshen up on the melody and I'll be back with some more lyrics!

Like Bigbro said, we need to come up with some rituals to make this a true holiday.

T

Good King Svenceslas looked out on the gathered heathen.
Plenty Vitcos hung about, cedar burnt so eeeeven.
Brightly shone the torch that night, though it had no fuel,
When some drunkards came in sight, drinking by the po-ooo-el.

Good Chief Lapu-Lapu looked down,
On the "Book Of Tiki"
Where the shrinkwrap on the ground,
Lay crisp and clear and squeaky,

For fifty bucks he could have bought,
Some chlorine for his poo-el,
But he was stoked to own the BOT,
Cause it was twice as coo-oo-el.

Deck the beach with Tiki torches
Fa La La La La La La La La
Palm Trees swish and sway before us
Fa La La La La La La La La

Don our bright and gay apparel
Fa La La La La La La La La
Sing the ancient Tiki carols
Fa La La La La La La La La :tiki:

With stories of Kon-Tiki's journey
Fa La La La La La La La La
braved the oceans rage and fury
Fa La La La La La La La La

Sipping nectar of the Gods
Fa La La La La La La La La
Drinking from our tiki mugs
Fa La La La La La La La La

feel free to add more verses....:tiki:

Maybe this has been brought up in another post, but here are the actual lyrics to "Quiet Village." I did not make these up, nor did Les Baxter or even Martin Denny. They were written by someone named Mel Leven. I found this in one of my girlfriend's ukulele song books:

"Alone, in my quiet village I pray
You will be returning one day
To me
Return to me.

"Alone, living with the mem'ry of you,
Promising you'd always be true,
To me
Return to me

"Above me, there's a moon on fire,
Telling you to love me, as I desire,
And ever the flame, in my quiet village will burn,
Darling 'til the day you return,
To me
Return to me
Return to me."

This i smoved from my earlier post on a different thread...

[Sung to the tune of Jingle Bells - and as a round of course!]

Tiki crawls
Tiki crawls
Tiki all the way
Oh what fun it is to drink in a tiki bar today

[taking it to the bridge...]

Mai tais they will flow
And wearing tiki leis
To the tiki bar we go
Laughing all the way
Ukuleles play
Making spirits bright
Oh what fun it is to drink in a tiki bar tonight

Here's my song for Tiki Day. Is called "Ode To Tiki Day" and its sung to the tune of "Margaritaville." JUST KIDDING!! I'm kidding, I swear! I'm not sure what tune it can be sung to, Ive got to hone my Hawaiian slide guitar skills. Anyhow, here we go:
On Tiki Day we will make merry
Potions from Beach Bum Berry
Aku Aku Kona Kai
Pour yourself a strong mai tai
Thumb thru Sven Kirsten's book
Idols from the isles of Cook
Cutters of Samoan fog
Toss back some voodoo grog
Carvings from Oceanic Arts
Love of tiki in our hearts
Aku Aku Kona Kai
Pour yourself a strong mai tai
Light the torches they will come
Hawaiian shirts, drinks of rum
Baxter, Lyman and Don Ho
Let your inhibitions go
Oh to comb a beach with Don
Join us in our tiki song
Aku Aku Kona Kai
Pour yourself a strong mai tai

Tiki Godess...excellent!

With all this rhyming going on, I'm surprised Bax hasn't put his two cents in yet.

Way to throw the old Lapu in there Sabu. Looks like it's almost time for Sam's again.
