If anyone is planning on hitting any of the Petty Booka shows in the next week or two, please be aware that they are part of a package tour with a bunch of other bands, and they are only doing a 35-minute show. That said, it is quite an entertaining 35 minutes! The other four bands who played are all very loud punk-pop acts, following in the aftermath of Shonen Knife. Some were good, a few were a bit sloppy, but if you're into that sort of stuff, it was a good night out for $10. But be forewarned: the show started at 9:00, Petty Booka didn't play until a bit after midnight, and their part of the evening was tantilizingly brief. I definitely wanted more! I think most of the people were there for the other four power pop acts, and even though Petty Booka were listed as the headlining act, I think they were sort of seen (by a lot of the audience) as a curiosity after the barrage of a night of four punky bands in a row. A lot of people didn't even stay for PB's part of the show. Hope Duke books them for a more substantial set at Exotica. They did Ukulele Lady, Hawaiian Hula, and 1 or 2 other Hawaiian songs, plus a bunch of pop hits, including tunes from Ramones, Blondie, and Cyndi Lauper. Good times. |

Hey Duke and James, Thanks for the update! Yes, I will be attending Exotica 2005. I got your email Duke and will send you a very enthusiastic response soon. I am so excited that Petty Booka will be there. You have made my day over here. Hopefully, as James said they will make a longer appearance for Exotica 2005. Yippeee! Thanks and Mahalo, |

Nuts! I had hoped they played earlier in the evening so later I could run over to the Tiki Taix and catch some of the King Kukulele... Grrrr! |
