Does anyone have the yellow cylinder mug from The Lanai in San Mateo? It features their logo tiki in brown relief across the mug 3 or 4 times.. If anyoe has an extra of this mug they are willing to trade, I most likely have a good mug you've been looking for.. I lead a very unhappy life without my meds [ Edited by: fatuhiva on 2002-12-23 21:11 ] |

Sorry, Brian, no, I just got a slide of this logo guy as the Lanai menu cover, and as a full size carved door (!). I got them at the stripmall joint that the Lanai had moved to, which is now also gone (Randy couldn't find it). Never could find out what the story of this carving was, but as a logo it must have originated from the Lanai's door. |

The strip mall building that housed the second (resurrected) Lanai is still there. Only now it's a Chinese/Japanese buffet. Actually pretty cheap and pretty good - we go there for lunch from work sometimes, thanks to having found it from BigBro's suggestion about the address. But almost all signs that it was once the second coming of the Lanai are gone, inside and out. Except there's still some lava rock on the exterior and a smallish tropical-ish waterpool thing by the bar - otherwise it's been pretty thoroughly blandified. On the original topic, Brian, I'm always looking for Lanai stuff, since it's sort of my home-field tiki legend, but no dice on that mug you're talking about. I don't even have the menus or much else. I do have some scans of old pictures that I'll post sometime though. -Randy |
