Ponder this statement, found in the profile of the #1 picked Lush Lounge... "a Manhattan diluted with too much grenadine" -Z |

yeah, that bugged me too. Who the fuck is putting grenadine into manhattans? MAYBE a LITTLE maraschino cherry syrup- maybe. Or...perhaps the reviewer is an idiot. |

You can't vote for Trader Vics, but you can help me. I am selling cool vintage stuff at the Drug Store in San Francisco. We are currently a close second to another store. Even if you can't visit the store, I'd appreciate it if you'd vote for us by clicking You don't even have to live near San Francisco to vote! you can vote more than once, but maybe not the same day. Load up those votes!! Let's make the Drug Store #1 like we did with Tiki Punch. :) Please tell your friends |

Well, in the East Bay, they know what a good Exotic Drink is -- Conga Lounge took first place for Best Exotic Drinks! They also placed for Best Signature Drink, and Best After-Work Bar. Congratulations to Conga Mike and the rest of the Conga Lounge crew! http://eastbay.citysearch.com/bestof/winners/exotic_drinks http://eastbay.citysearch.com/bestof/winners/signature_drinks |

Someday, I really want to go enjoy Trad'r Sam's EARLY. I love the Tonga Room for its decor and history, but the drinks at Sam's aren't any worse and they are cheaper (in fact they are better tastewise, in a lowbrow way, I said LOWBROW!), and the staff is much friendlier. I don't think any of us should ever be snooty towards either of these establishments, though, because they ultimately represent what we all wish we had more of: OLD tiki bars. Come on, 1939!!! Before WORLD WAR TWO!?! I am NOT going to complain about Sam's. I'm just glad they're still there, and I guess I'm even glad for the dumbass frat crowd, because they're ponying up the bucks and keeping Sam's alive. Are we, the tiki people, doing that? Well...no. Tiki or not, fact is, the world needs more old dive bars, and they're dying off at an alarming rate. I still mourn our "Jimmy Durante" bar-that-was in Vallejo, "Dinky-Doo's." |

After going to the SF Zoo one weekend day, I stopped by Sam's and it was totally empty. having been disappointed with their mixed/tropical drinks, I ordered a beer. I've heard stories about how Sam's get late at night, and that would tend to deter me from frequenting it at that hour... |

that raises an interesting issue: Where will our children drink? And, if we don't have children, who will keep the tiki torch burning when we're gone? Dangergirl (high on caffeine and prone to worrying) |
