I seem to seen more and more horrible compilations trying to capitalize on our sub-culture. It's hard to imagine buying this nightmare but recieving this as a gift from an well intentioned friend and having to play it... It could happen to you!!!!!!

"Play That Funky Music" is tiki?????? Wow, thats not a stretch, thats a major leap. I know what you mean about well intending friends. I have a corner full of so called tropical stuff that is too tacky for tiki....like the shiny mylar palm tree...OUCH. |

What's worse than that cd is being in a beautifully decorated tiki bar (like The Waitiki in Orlando, FL) and hearing Sweet Home Alabama and an entire cd of Terance Trent D'Arby... [:-(] |

...or worse - having the presidential debates on the TV while sitting in the Waitiki with Joe Vitale, Flounder, King Kukulele and maikainagirl. But that CD is pretty bombastic. Ecch. |

lol...don't forget the startling closer of Summertime Blues, possibly by Blue Cheer, 1968's loudest band on the planet who's inability or unwillingness to keep their instruments in tune is oddly never mentioned... but as bad as Drew's first tiki compilation is, after some surfing on CDNOW I now believe volume two to be far, far worse... Drew's Famous Kon Tiki Luau Party

What does the song 'Tiki Tiki Stomp' sound like? Is that the heavy metal version of 'Tiptoe Through the Tulips?' Vern |

In defense of "Drew"..there are TWO Drew's famous CDs I enjoy. One is, I believe, the first, I think called Famous Luau Music..or something. It's not covers of pop songs but fake, pseudo-Hawaiian imitation steel guitar instrumentsals..SpongeBob Squarepants-like. The other I just recently received, Drew's Tribute To Don Ho, a mix of vocals only the first song Tiny Bubbles is a true (and very good) imitation of Don Ho. There's an ripoff of Andy Williams Hawaiian Wedding Song, some European Abba-esque version of Aloha Oe, and a bunch of songs made famous by Don Ho, sung by a male vocalist but not sounding exactly like Don Ho. It's rather enjoyable. |

Don’t get me started. I often wish bars would be as careful about their music and soundsystem as they (pretend to) be about the drinks! KK |
