Unfriendly Tiki Mask

Pages: 1 9 replies

Hi all - I post this yesterday. I'm trying to figure out the origin on a mask I recently purchased and if it brings any bad or good vibes to the owner. I have enclosed a link to the picture below.

Any and all responses are welcomed.

Thanks,
Nigel

Tipsy is right, it is from the Philippines and is known as a Dragon Mask.

Here's another thread:

Hakalugi and Tipsy- thanks for the response. Are any supernatural beliefs linked to the Wooden Dragon Mask?

Ya learn something everyday I didn't know about the dragon masks of the philippines...but I do know the people there have rich stories. I grew up with wonderful, rich and highly detailed stories from my mother. She told many mythological stories as well as very realistic ones, of the horrors of WWII.

Also there is a good book "when the rainbow goddess wept" it weaves real stories with mythology. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0472086375/sr=1-1/qid=1147308360/ref=sr_1_1/102-6317414-0817752?%5Fencoding=UTF8

My mother never spoke of the dragon, I'll ask.

That mask scares the hell out of me!

Definitely Filipino. My uncle had two on his wall when I was a kid... and they scared the bajeezuz out of me.

I have one of those dragon masks that I picked up at a thrift. It has two stickers on the back, one says "made in Philippines" the other is a price tag from the Polynesian Cultural Center. Original cost - $44.00.
