You're quite welcome, Pappy. Here are a few more that I've found on the USENET over the last few weeks: The Kilima Hawaiians - "On The Beach At Waikiki" - A Dutch hapa-haole band from 1920-1946. A large set of songs. I've divided them between two zip files: http://rapidshare.de/files/16340491/kilima_hawaiians_1.zip.html Sid Bass - "Moog EspaƱa"

Whoa, Kono!!! Awesome Blog!!! Very excellent stuff you got goin' on there. I'm amazed I haven't bumped into (or been steered to) it yet. I'm gonna put the word out. I meant to post a while back about the "The Romantic Lure of Hawaii" by the Surfmen post on Tam Tam & Melodie. That was a repost of a recording that has been around for a few years now. I was thinking that it had originally been posted by our own Bellybongo ( http://www.bellybongo.com/ ) but I don't see it listed on his Archives page. The Low Level Hum was a bit unfortunate but it still sounded way better than most of the stuff that is ever posted on the Tam Tam blog. As for Gene Rain's Lotus Land... I know that you can get a copy as part of the third of one of three Exotica Collections available at http://www.basichip.com/digitalgold/digitalgold.htm . I cannot recommend these items heartily enough. They are perfection. Thanks, Sabu! This is a tremendous thread! [ Edited by: Traitor Vic 2006-04-18 23:05 ] |

Someone (not me) posted a crapload of vintage Hawaiian music on alt.binaries.sounds.78rpm-era Grab it quick, it was posted on April 30. There is tons of Western Swing there too, and a lot of classic Jazz. |

Cool, but can I listen to it if my turntable doesn't play 78rpm? (haha, uh, don't laugh - that was actually my first thought when I read that) -Randy |

Hey! That's my cover scan of Taboo2! Those wily Usenet people. At least they're not hotlinking to it though, I guess. Weird how things bounce around on the interweb. -Randy |

Hi Tiki-people, Looks like you are right into using the binary Usenet to get your goods. I have a free tutorial online if you need more help. If you've already got an ISP which has good retention on its own news servers that is good. If you are interested in finding more of what you are looking for, you could try some of the premium new server providers. Usually they have a free trial period, though most are month to month types of service plans, with no obligation to continue. Cheers, the CanadianAlien |
