old trader vic's mug set

Pages: 1 8 replies

I recently got a set of mugs (8, matching) of 1950's Trader Vic's mugs. I got them from an 85 yr. old fella, original owner. The bottom is marked: "made only for Trader Vic's USA". I've seen these (originals, not copies) go on Ebay for as much as $190 each. Am going to sell the set of 8 for one price, but would like to confirm their value. I'm new to this website, & don't know the ins-n-outs...can anyone help...anyone interested...can email pics...can provide good references...Thanks, John

Just a little matter of getting the tags straight... [] not ()

Also, for reference, the Ooga Mooga page for that mug is here. There's an average price for in the wild sightings that you can reference.

Are you sure about that? I bought my original for $29.00.

Hi...this pic shows particular details of the mugs I have, vs what i've seen in the $5-$35 range...the bottom is not marked with the date: 1963...The images's eyes are painted shut...the Hula girl has less hair on her right side (than on the other styles), & in some cases the paint color tint varies from mug to mug. Is this usual for this mug, or do the differences determine a paticular variety, date of manuf., etc...Thanks for any help...John

Hard to tell from the b&w image but I would think the closer to patent the mug was, the earlier it would be.

Thanks, Pappythesailor...the facial images on the patent sheet seem similar (the eyes shut..., & as stated, there is no date of manufacture on these mugs, anywhere (prototypes?)...do you, or does anyone, know of good reference material for tiki mug i.d.?...& how do you get patent pics?...I'm trying to learn...thanks, much, John
