Hi All, Just going through your thread on the current Bacardi/Pernod wrangle concerning Havana Club. Yes, it is an absolute pain, and thoroughly unfair state of affairs when Rum companies start banging eachother over the head at the expense of the consumer. On a brighter note there is another premium Ron I'm sure many of you know about that won't suffer from the same name problems and should with luck be available in the future in the USA... Santiago de Cuba. ( http://www.tropical-ltd.com/ ) My advice is to get the 11yo Santiago de Cuba... It's fantastic and one of my favourites since Angostura Single Barrel Reserve. PS: I have spoken with the directors of Santiago de Cuba while they were over in London for Bar.06 and they are eager to get into the US and cannot wait for the embargos to be lifted. |

I tried Santiago de Cuba in Spain, and found it to be an excellent rum. But don't hold your breath waiting for the embargo to end. I would be surprised if it happened any time soon. The U.S. has cracked down on illegal travel to and from Cuba in recent years (from what I've heard it used to be rarely enforced), under the guise of protecting the U.S. from terrorists. |
