I just saw the ad in the Washington Post. Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reefer Band has named this year's 2003 tour schedule the 'Tiki-Time Tour' No word yet on whether he will actually have tikis on stage. First tour date is April 15, in Houston. Vern |

I'm sure that they'll be enough drunken, cigarette-smelling, drooping, sun-wrinkled-prune cleavage there that you'll have no need of the more upscale ladies of Tiki Central. |

We were dicussing this with Mr. Smiley last night at the Odeon--we think we should mass a protest for the concerts, with posters and chants. Since Buffet is responsible for the decline of the tiki culture and the rise of the tequila and margarita set, he shouldn't be jumping on the tiki bandwagon now. Bastard. Down with tequila! |

I guess the standard Buffet routine has gotten a bit stale.... the same old songs, the same people coming to what is more or less the same show year after year, the same old margarita drinks... He must have looked way beyond the heads of his typical audience, and seen us tiki folks way off in the distance, with all of our creative energy. He looked closer, and saw that we were doing tiki activities all year round, and not just the one day of the year when his show rolled into town. Of course, most of his audience is too lazy or unwilling to actually turn around and discover tiki culture for themselves - so all he can do is take the word 'tiki' and sprinkle it over the heads of his audience, knowing it will have little effect on their ways. Let him and his audience have their fun ... perhaps the best we can hope for is that some of the true tiki spirit might reach some of the lost, but soon to be enlightened souls. Vern |

Perhaps all us web masters need to add "tikitime" to our keywords and co-op and Internet traffic he may bring. |
