Trying to guage interest: Tiki Action figures??

Pages: 1 15 replies

Hi All!
I have been trying to put together a toy line for a while.. Art / Vinyl toys..
I thought a Tiki type figure.. Vinyl.. Maybe 8 inches with limited articulation would be cool..

Would there be any interest in THIS kind of Tiki item??
Or is it just not something people would care too much about??

I know this is vague, but trying to see initial interest!

Just don't make them look like these:

Don the Beachcomber with real boar tusk necklace!
Trader Vic--with removable leg!
You could have them fight it out once and for all. Take that, you dirty stinker!

freddie, those are hideous! someone gave me a tikimon awhile back, and i'm happy to say i sent it to andy landry! tiki ham, if they looked like real tikis, they might be kinda cool.

Pappy's got the idea!

And have a James Teitelbaum one, with a miniature Easter Island playground.

And a King Kukulele Action Figure, with a wind up string that plays a different hapa haole song or corny joke with each pull. AND THEY NEVER REPEAT.

And Action Humuhumu, with mini Bamboo Purse, and little Chinese dres- wait, forget it. The dresses would be too microscopic if you made them to scale with the other figures.

OK, a Leroy Schmaltz one, complete with a cute miniature chainsaw.

Maybe a Martiki one with a cute little cocktail shaker and "Drink Mixing Action!".

I'll leave it up to others to nominate whose yet unnamed action figure would feature "Drunken Falling Down Action!".

Crazy Al used to do master sculpts for toy companies. Think he even did some early Brittany Spears stuff.

You should contact him.

as long as they looked cool, had detail, and didnt look like a joke, this might be a good thing.

We already have action figures.
You fill them with drinks and then the action starts.

California Ku, Kahiki #1, Mr. Bali Hai and hundreds more all ready for action.

Was this the sort of "Tiki Bong" you were looking for? :o

I guess you can attach the word "Tiki" to anything these days!

I think some people have very valid points here. It seems that any tiki "themed action figures" that have already been made were not accepted due to the non-believeable colors, designs that were produced.
TikiMon had an OK storyline behind it, but almost all of the designs were aimed directly at a kids market. Almost like Mr. Rogers meets Tikis in a sense. They also reminded me of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles due to the way the acted and talked(VERY 80's). I can tell you personally, I'd be interested in something like a line of figures that "tribute" tiki artists & carvers like Bosko, Al, Shag, and many other of the talented artists here and abroad. Imagine an action figurine that looks like one of Boskos carvings, or one of Shags many styles. Only major problem with that would be trying to get them(the artists/carvers) behind it, and then licensing their likeness. I'm sure it wouldnt be cheap. The figures would have to be something that reminds us of tiki whether its polypop or more traditional, and not just a cheap toy marketed with the words "Tiki Figure" on the box. If they are original designs, I'd suggest getting feedback on the designs themselves BEFORE dropping money into main production to see if people like them. Good Luck, and its not a bad idea.....
