(This thread is for informational purposes only; I just find this stuff interesting. I like everybody, really.) In the book, How American's Can Buy American, you can see who or really what nation owns a certain company. Here's what it's got to say about rum: Bermuda - Anejo, Bacardi, Carta Blanca, Castillo, Limon Interesting--I always thought Captain Morgan and Bacardi were American companies. I guess I don't like ANY American rum. Who knew about Myer's and Havana Club? Other cool stuff in the book: No Canadian whiskys are Canadian-owned. Wild Turkey is French-owned too. |

Bacardi's recently-launched Havana Club is owned by Bacardi. The recipe supposedly comes from the family that Castro kicked out of Cuba. French-based Pernod Ricard markets the other Havana Club for the Cuban government, except in the U.S. Myers's is owned by Diageo, which is a huge coporation that also ownes Guinness, Red Stripe, Smirnoff, Captain Morgan, Gordon's, Crown Royal, J&B, Seagram 7 Crown, Johnnie Walker, Tanqueray, and many others. |
