Just when you thought it might not get any crazier... I received an unbelievable email today - holy schnikees!! Next year's event might blow the doors off of this year's Bash! That's all for now - more as/if it becomes available. If it happens, I am confident that all of you will be very stoked! Holden |

I'm lettin' the cat out of the bag... Since the Bash I've been contacted by the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Vegas's VP of Entertainment/Creative Services. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Vegas is very interested in sponsoring next year's Tiki Bash with a tikified poolside prelude leading up to a full-on tiki concert at "The Joint" hopefully headlined by Brian Setzer. Trader Vic's will again be present, too! As it stands, the Farm will be coordinating all branded merchandise & artists cooperation as well as helping out in general grounds decor and event "flow". Although the Bash was fun, the "flow" could have been better - I learned a few things for sure. If you're familiar with the Hard Rock's poolside grounds, then you know that it is primed for a major tiki invasion. A labyrinth of swim-up bars & gaming tables, lagoons, sandy beaches, streams, 2 stages, underwater speakers, palapa huts & giant palms are what you'll find poolside. The date is tentatively set for the Saturday of Easter Weekend. I should receive the final word by mid-week... it's not definite yet so for now I'm just waiting for an answer. The event will be renamed and all future events will take on the new name: MONDO TIKI Best, |

Just a quick note to let you all know that it is too early to answer any questions regarding this possible event - I don't have any additional information as it get's decided on this week by HR corporate. If this thing happens, there'll definitely be enough information both on our site and the hard rock website to answer all of the questions. |

After I return from business in San Francisco next Tuesday, I will post-up all of the details! Everything is about 90% ink'd! The event will start at Noon and go through 11pm, poolside at the Hard Rock. Unfortunately, the Hard Rock backed-out on Setzer so it will be entirely poolside but with much more than originally anticipated! There's a tremendous amount going on with this event with musical acts, crazy vintage tiki slideshows, fire jugglers, hula dancers, tiki vendors, crazy grounds decor, top shelf cocktails, Shag swag, event "goodie bags", dj, tini bikini wahine competition, Shag chips & gaming layout launch. We've registered http://www.mondotiki.com and should have a website up by March 1 w/all the details. I've blocked 100 rooms at $159/each (vs. $209 at the HR for that weekend) and will post up all of the info at the mondotiki website. I'll post more info after I return on Feb. 19th! |

Sat. night at the bar where I work I had a non-tikifile friend tell me that he heard that Brian Setzer was playing the last night of VLV at The Joint. I though they backed out? Holden please update us. I'd love to go to VLV but have seen some of the bands (some at a wedding, if you can believe it) and am more interested in tiki events. |

Laney, the last time I talked to Holden, he said that Setzer wasn't going to play because of his management. I guess they need to know about a couple of months or so in advance when he's gonna play so that press and advertising can be done properly. Of course Holden and I both thought that on a weekend like VLV and the Mondo thing, Setzer filling the Hard Rock would not even kind of be a problem. Oh well... |

The beauty of the Hard Rock Hotel is the pool... so that's half the reason to stay there. If one is attending an event at the pool and one has tickets, then one is all set. Or if one has friends with a Hard Rock room key, then that's all that's needed. |

Ok, so I know when it's going to happen. I know where it's going to happen. I know who's going to be there. But...Do I need a ticket, do I need a room at the hotel? I'm going to be across town at the Viva Las Vegas rockabilly weekender and I want to make sure I can get into Mondo Tiki. By the way, if you're in Vegas between Thursday and Sunday you can see bands at the Gold Coast during the day without a VLV ticket. There are also vintage clothes vendors and it's always a blast just hanging in the casino, thousands of people from across the world are there for the festival. |

Also at the Gold Coast on Saturday in the daytime (9AM-3PM) is the Shifters car show. This year George Barris will be there with the Munster Coach! Bands also play during the car show, and Candy Clark (Debbie) and Bo Hopkins from American Grafitti will be there. I'm excited because I had a big crush on Candy Clark from the first time I saw American Grafitti in the early 70s. The show takes place on the top level of the parking structure and it's free. |

Just a word of warning about the Hard Rock pool... It was mentioned above that all you need to have to get into the Hard Rock's pool is a friend with a room key. I don't know if things will be different for the Mondo Tiki event, but normally, a room key alone will not get you into the pool area. While normally a room key is proof enough to get you into most Vegas hotel pools, the demand is so high for the Hard Rock's pool that they make it quite difficult to get in if you are not a currently registered hotel guest. Basically, what they do is when you check in, they will give you one wristband per paid registered guest per day that you are staying. Without the wristband, you can't get into the pool area. On top of that, each wristband is colored and has some saying or quote on it. And they rotate the colors and text, so you can't even use wristbands that you might not have used from a previous stay at the HR. So, unless they change the rules for this event, or unless you're staying at the HR, or unless Holden says otherwise, I wouldn't necessarily count on getting into the pool area. Just thought everyone should know... BTW, aloha all... I've met some of you before at various tiki and Shag events, but this is my first post here at TC. |

Holden previously said he "blocked 100 rooms at $159 per night". Does anyone know if that block of rooms is specifically for TC people, or is it for his vendors and close friends? This kind of sounds like it this may be a mad scramble for Hard Rock rooms, since events like Viva Las Vegas usually have their rooms pre-sold almost a year in advance. WaitingCaddyDaddy |

The mondotiki website is built but there are a few last details that are keeping the HR from posting the site. In the meantime, you can book discounted rooms by calling (800) 473-ROCK and be sure to mention "Mondo Tiki"... this is my 1st announcement of the #/code so call asap as the rooms will book-up fast. The room rates are $179 per night, not the $159 promised earlier on by the HR. As far as entry goes into the event, the cost is $20 and can only be paid at the poolside entrance to the event. Your room rate does not include entry into the event. The event is slated for Noon - 11pm with The Eliminators, Ape! and Cherry Capri/Thurston Howlies providing the live musical entertainment. Between acts, Capitol Records will be on-site spinning Ultra Lounge. Charles Phoenix is debuting his "Retro Hawaiian Holiday Slideshow" which is a part of his God Bless Americana Series on a giant 20'x20' screen. Appleton's is pouring the drinks - there are 3 tiki bars. Top-shelf cocktails are slated at around $5 or $6+ in a plastic tiki tumbler. The entertainment will culminate in the evening with Hawaiian Hula Dancers & Fire Jugglers. Also what's cool is that James Teitelbaum will be on site debuting/signing his "Tiki Road Trip" book. Doug Nason will be there with photos from his recent trip to Bali and of course our very own Sven will be there, too. Tiki Central will be represented and I still have to make contact w/Otto to get his nod for attending Mondo. We're at over 20 vendors and the wares they're exhibiting include such things as... Also, the HR will be selling commemorative Shag t's and posters plus the event is the official debut of the Shag Mondo Tiki $5 gaming chips & Shag gaming table layouts. We'll be selling a ltd. qty of 600 (2 glazes, 300 per glaze) giant Shag MONDO TIKI MUGS for $35 - limit 1 mug per attendee. Shag will be there to personally sign the hangtags. I'm heading out of the country on business and after I return, I will be keeping you updated with news, etc. on Mondo. |

If you stay at a different Hotel, can you still get in to the MONDO TIKI? Hard Rock will not take you as a Saturday arrival, it will have to be Friday and Saturday. They also said 179.00/night and not 159.00 as Holden stated, I don't know if the lady was drinking but I wonder... Also where do you get tickets? Help! |

IMPORTANT NEWS FLASH!! Your $179 per night (2-night min) discounted room rate at the Hard Rock DOES get you free admission into the event for 2 adults ($40 value) as well as 2 ltd. edition HR/Shag commemorative poker chips (1 chip per room guest - 2 chips per room max)!!! In all reality, these chips will likely trade for a minimum of $25+ each as soon as they hit the street! For rooms - call (800) 473-ROCK and mention MONDO TIKI. |

I'll be there, as I'll be in Vegas for the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly weekender at the Gold Coast (Thurs.-Sun.). We're staying at the Palms because it's across from the Gold Coast. I would like to ride on the tour bus as well but I would miss too many good acts at the show that night. We'll probably head over to the Hard Rock around 5, after the car show at the Gold Coast. I'm looking forward to meeting you Ben! Las Vegas tip: dine at the Golden Steer Steakhouse on Sahara just west of the strip. For a great steak, excellent service, and an old style Western steakhouse atmosphere. We go every year (this year on Thursday night) and wouldn't miss it when in Vegas. |
