I just picked up a copy of his LP "The Primitive and the Passionate" and it features the following: "Adding to the distinctive, romantic quality of the instrumentals is the truly amazing high soprano voice of "Tiki", a recent discovery of Les'. "Tiki's" remarkable four octave vocal range lends itself to being used not only as an instrument but also to simulate the unusual sounds of bird calls." Does anyone here know who Tiki was and if she's still around? -martin |

It is funny that Baxter once dismissed Denny's version of Quiet Village because of the "sounds and noises," yet he later added a Tiki (and I assume Yma Sumac type) with the bird calls to make this album. An interesting note: Les Baxter made more money from Denny's version of Quiet Village(because of royalties) than Denny did. |
