S

The Sophisticated Misfit, a documentary about SHAG will make its world premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival on Thursday, April 26, 2007. This four year labor of love was produced by my good friend Smee who is also a friend of TC. This feature-length documentary is based on the artwork of SHAG, his legion of fans and its meaning in modern-day art. The movie contains interviews with SHAG, Whoopi Goldberg, Patton Oswalt, Paul Frank and many others. There is also great footage of the Sophisticated Misfit Show, Mondo Tiki in Vegas and other events with comments from Bamboo Ben, Crazy Al and Holden W.

Tickets for the premiere are available through the Newport Beach Film Festival website at http://www.newportbeachfilmfest.com.

For more info please see the following websites:

That's questionable. He was interviewed behind one of his Tiki Bars, so you only see him from the waist up.

Just a head's up -- there's only one showing of this documentary in a 207 seat theatre, so you'll want to get your tickets asap before it sells out.

Your Fired TikiLale for not asking if the bus runs near the newport film fest!hah
Anyhow, I've been waiting to see info on this documentary for a while. Ive seen the trailer a long while back, and it looked good...Cant wait to see it!

I've been dealing with Resin and Urathanes the last few days.

Correct me if I'm wrong ( I'm sure yous will!)

Is this not The first doc/film of TC's tiki generation to be accepted to the big screen?

Right on again Smee!

S

I'm pretty sure you are correct, Rev.

And there is a lot of footage of TCer's in the movie -- old school from 2002 on.

There is also an after party following the movie featuring 'special guests' at the festival site.

Details to follow.

..anyone know when we can purchase copies of the film or when they will be available?? i missed the showing at mondo lounge in vegas cause i had to leave on sunday.....

Hey Tipsy,

Mahalo for inquiring. Smee has been pretty busy updating the film for the festival with the Whoopie Goldberg segment but the DVD should be available sometime in early summer. SHAG is working on the cover art now and we hope to have a poster ready for the event this Thursday.

cool...so long as i don't end up on the cutting room floor!!

The 7:30 show of The Sophisticated Misfit is officially sold out. A second show has been added for 9:30 pm. If anyone out there did not get tickets to the first showing, I have 2 available for purchase (face value, no gouging). Drop me an email if you are interested and we'll make arrangments.

See you at the show!

SoccerTiki and I are looking forward to a Night Out at The Movies tomorrow night :)

who is this SHAG guy and whats all the fuss about.

I wonder if its the same guy I saw playing with the Tiki Tones at the Doll Hut in 97 with about 10 people watching. if so , wow things have changed.

How about Muldoon's Pub? It's at 202 Newport Center Dr (just down the street from the theater.)

I look forward to purchasing the DVD, too!

You say "poster," and I almost
wish Shag had done a limited edition serigraph poster for the film!

:)

Hey Grommit,

There actually has been some talk about a limited edition poster but the timeline for the film fest was too tight. Smee would like to do it for the DVD but it will be up to SHAG and his people.

Here's a sneak peak of the artwork.

Pretty cool.

Al-ii and I will be at Tommy Bahama's tonight around 5-5:30 for a few mojitos before the show.....

Anyone going to the show (or just in the area) stop on by!
