This is a remodel of an existing bar area that came with our house.Lots of low grade panneling.Used beach matts from big lots $1 each for thatching, free glass coffee table turned into shelving, free bar stools, and additonal work space made from scrap OSB.Still a work in progress, but check it out. Deleted some of the older pictures... [ Edited by: insanetikiers 2008-11-20 06:26 ] [ Edited by: insanetikiers 2008-11-20 06:36 ] |

Way nice. Bonus to do it on the cheap. You can change the white bar top with a bit of creativity.... Paint it a base color with the Krylon Plastic Paint. Make copies of vintage postcards and photos and stick them down with a very small amount of glue (mod-podge works best). Then do a resin pour over that. The stuff stinks for a couple of days but when it is done it looks way cool. I'll find some pics of my bar top to give you some ideas. |

Yeah another friend also had a similar idea;but seeing as the ol'tiki husband does counter-tops as a living he needs more convincing. He's holding out for vintage boomorang? pattern. |

You're not kidding about being in a tiki free state. Even the few tiki bars we have here at the beach really only qualify as a tiki-themed bar, and could otherwise be substituted for any other bar down here. |

white walls are the kiss of death to any tiki bar as well as embarassing to guests...lets get some earth tones slapped up a.s.a.p. or a quick visit to your local salvation army should yield a multitude of bamboo slat roll down curtains which you can use to cover large areas of wall (after you remove the cord and mechanism). Both avenues are cheap fixes and the results are well worth the small effort..... |
