Here's a TRT article in this weekend's USA Today -

http://www.usatoday.com/travel/destinations/10great/2007-08-02-tiki_N.htm?csp=34

But a DJ at the Mai Kai...?
I HATE being misquoted like that!

There is another, better article that also came out today, here -

http://www.worldhum.com/qanda/item/james_teitelbaum_inside_north_americas_top_tiki_bars_20070802/

Of course both articles fail to mention that the BEST place to get TRT2 is here:

Congratulations James!!!!! :)

The World Hum article hit the nail on the head!!!

Cheers and Mahalo,
Jeff

Nice pic of you James! Holding a Forbidden Island mug even. You have to get out here and visit Forbidden Island soon. I just got a new sofa that may fit you! (new to me anyway)

Norwegian daily Verdens Gang has made its own Tiki Road Trip to commemorate the 60h anniversary of the Kon Tiki Expedition. The article is not on-line but there is a nice slide-show with pictures from a lot of familiar places (Enchanted Tiki Room, The Caliente, Kon Tiki Tucson, etc) and some familiar faces (Sven Kirsten, Otto von Stroheim, Sabu and Tikifish).

Dean - Yeah, that FI mug actually had a rather potent drink in it. That photo shoot was like four hour long (I did some product shots for the cool new Tiki Terrace swag also that day), and I was loaaad-ed by the end of it all.
I think Martin and Michael and Mano would appreciate their expatriate mug being put to such good use.

And Jeff, yeah, I like that way the World Hum interview came out.
It is ironic of course that the interview that literally millions of people saw (USA Today) was sort of cursory and generic, and the real in-depth one (World Hum) will only be seen by a fraction of the eyeballs that the quickie one was... but that's life!

congratulations on another edition of your book James!

just read the worldhum interview - good read!

My brother has the first edition, I was just wondering if the new edition still has a small section on international tiki destinations? looking forward to getting this new edition along with the new tiki modern and I'll be able to satisfy all my tiki reading - for another few weeks at least!

cheers,
harro.

Harro

The second edition has a MUCH bigger international section.

I went back to Spain, Easter Island, and Hawaii on research missions, and communicated extensively with people like Josh Collins about his places in the UK and Australia. Got data form some German contacts too, and hit up some Japanese friends for info.

To quote my good friend Jeff Lynne* - "All over the world, every body got the word (of Tiki)".

Check it out!

As always, the BEST place to get TRT2 is here:

  • = actually, I don't know the guy at all, and I added the part about Tiki to his lyric.
