Jeff,
We were there on Thursday (10/11/07) and there was a lot of activity but they were not open. They said they were trying for an opening at 5:00 PM on Friday but that was iffy but they would be open Saturday for sure. We Didn't make it back until Monday afternoon and they were definitely open and eager to serve.

dozens of tiki statues mysteriously appeared to mark the opening of the
Trader Vic's restaurant at the Miracle Mile Shops at the Planet Hollywood
Resort & Casino.

Origins unknown, the tikis are definitely friendly. Tourists are
invited to take pictures with the tikis and rub them for good luck. Casino
gamblers infused with tiki-power can expect much good fortune, and Trader

record jackpots today. Tiki sightings have been reported by the "Welcome to
Fabulous Las Vegas" sign, by the replica Eiffel Tower and many of the tikis
appear intent on watching the Bellagio fountain show. Magic tikis were also
spotted on-stage with famed illusionist, Hans Klok.

Each of the tiki statues are hand-carved and stand 6-feet tall by
3-feet wide. Don't be rude and ask how much they weigh, because those
Trader Vic's BBQ Kobe short ribs with nashi pear salad and soy sake glazed
Hawaiian ono with green papaya salad are hard to refuse! Suffice it to say,
they're healthy, robust tikis.

Trader Vic's Las Vegas is now open in the Miracle Mile Shops at the
Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The 15,000 sq. ft. restaurant and lounge
features modern and traditional Asian/Polynesian dining with an outdoor
party patio overlooking the famed-Las Vegas Strip and a second-floor
ultralounge.

*In the mythology of some Polynesian peoples, Tiki was the first man on
earth. There are several versions of the Tiki's story, but according to the
Maori, the god Tumatauenga created him. One day, Tiki saw a woman,

seduced Tiki and the two eventually married. The traditional Tiki is today
regarded as a symbol of good luck and fertility. Trader Vic's is regarded

I haven't been to LV to check out Trader Vic's yet, but hearing the comments makes me wonder about their objectives. Where else in the entire World (outside of Disneyland and DisneyWorld) can someone go to the extreme when decorating a restaurant, but in Las Vegas? Many comments have been made here about the LV Trader Vic's keeping a "Vegas feel". That is completely contrary to everything about Vegas. Trader Vic's has a responsibility to its global customers (you and me), and to those people just visiting Vegas, to put their best foot forward and DO IT RIGHT. Create that environment to transport the customer to that exotic place deep in recesses of our imagination (which TV has been known for), and offer the best drinks and food in the true TV style. They are in LAS VEGAS where opulence is the norm!!

I noticed you took the rubber off the web site above "Trader Vic, Women want to be with him, men want to be like him"
Can you please take the Aku Aku reference off and put the rubber back up? It's more appropriate.

You're absolutely right, TWB. It's mind-boggling that in the land of "build it and they will come", we now have possibly the blandest TV ever!! In a strip, known for it's attention to detail (exact replica of Eiffel Tower, Bellagio fountains etc) we now have a TV without a shred of thatch or bamboo!!

I've heard rumours about London's Mahiki possibly opening in Vegas. I hope this happens, because they will show Vic's management, once and for all, that Tiki doesn't suck and that you don't need a bland cafeteria look to be successful!!!!

It looks okay to me. But, then again, maybe it just wasn't designed specifically for the TC crowd...which is apparently a good thing, because it seems that no one from TC will be frequenting TV's in LV.
