A couple of weeks ago I made the grueling drive from Houston to Tampa. On I-10 around Alabama or Mississippi there's a mega-gambling resort called the Beau Rivage and there are a million billboards telling you so. One of the adverts showed "The Tiki Room" with four tikis in a row. In "fine print" at the bottom of the billboard (I read this at 75 mph!) it said Thursday nights only. Have any of you in AL or MS heard of or been to this? If it's in a room with a rotating theme each night of the week, then I doubt that it's that big of a deal, but maybe worth checking out. I checked their website, but couldn't find anything pertaining to this. |

I was in biloxi on the fourth. This club tiki is an outdoor pool venue. Techno Pop, Rap and Dance Music. The annoying Dj kept saying things like "Tiki, is in the house." or "Let's kick it up a notch for Tiki." They had two Wayne Coombs Mai Tiki Tikis. They also had some plywood cutout tikis that were While Shelley and I were down south we enjoyed a hurricane at the birthplace of the hurricane "Pat O'Brians". An excelent drink. I'll get around to posting my New Orleans Tiki Hunt. |

I live about an hour from the place. I have stayed there several times but never visited a "tiki bar" of any sort. Hey Sven, get the lawyers, Micheal Jordan owns a lot of stock in that mother of all casino's on the coast. All in all, it is one of the nicest in Biloxi. They spent a lot of money on it and I have a little intrest left behind in it. Oh, if you are down south, stay out of the water until you get to Gulf Shores, AL. |

Thanks guys, but I put out the book so Tiki would re-enter pop culture again, and it is, good AND bad. I feel that a lot of great vintage pop culture is NOT out there because of the exorbitant copyright fees the big media conglomerates ask nowadays. I mean if DISNEY cuts down on the amount of ELVIS material in Lilo &Stitch because they can't afford it, WHO the &#@&! is ever gonna be able to afford it? (I fear this for my Tiki docu, which I want to fill with great footage..) Also, sueing is the bain of the modern America, fencing in pools, inhibiting freedom for fear, I am not going to contribute. This place seems to be in line with that other ilk like the Tiki Bob's in Seattle (and other cities) which uses Tiki simply as a buzzword. I hate to see that but it is unavoidable, all I can do is educate. Off course their art and font is straight from House Industries, not self made. |

Yeah, right, and here's the lead quote from an article in Orlando Leisure magazine titled, "It's Tiki Time." "If colorful, Caribbean-inspired casual suits your taste, invite some friends over and enjoy a fun-filled dinner at dusk. Pulling it all together is not hard at all if you get a little island attitude and think fresh, not complicated, for the food and decor." Somebody get me a war club.... |

Isn't the Hurricane they serve at Pat O'Brian's made from a powdered mix & cheap rum? One should try the Grog Log recipe for a true Hurricane. |

I spent most of my college years on Burbon Street and Pat O's never mixed powder and rum then. It was made natural then. Maybe they do that now, I dont know. Pat O's was never my favorite. I liked the Mud Wrestling, which they dont do anymore. Bastards. Nothing like two 500 pound woment rolling around in a mud arena to get the night started. Man those were the days!!! |
