Balanese Room gone

FoxNews is reporting the historic Balanese Room on the Galveston Seawall has been destroyed. Having frequented the area many times I don't how it could have survived (along with any of the other pier structures).

I was just looking to see if you guys posted it. Man it looked cool!

I had just read about this place yesterday in another thread asking if there was anything resembling tiki in Houston. About an hour later I saw Geraldo on FNC driving around in that area in the afternoon as the storm was just starting to pick up. He talked about how people like Bing Crosby had visited there and how it had a long history. It was wierd seeing it on the screen like that after I just read about it...and now it's all gone.

Yeah, the Balinese Room was probably one of the most historical (and notorious) places in Galveston. Rat Pack, Sinatra are just a couple of the big names who used to frequent there for some 'underground' gambling and drinking....had a lot of really great history. Shame that it's gone...last bit of anything remotely 'tiki' that houston/galveston had.
