I was looking at a friend's Air Force Patch collection and noticed one with tiki on it. I did some internet searching and found the following:

The United States Air Force's 154th Wing located at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. (this is the one my friend has)

The 199th Fighter Squadron located at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.

The 203d Air Refueling Squadron located at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.

The Hawaii Air National Guard (HIANG)

Nice find. Now I want to join the Air Force, but only if they'll promise to station me in Hawaii

I found some more info at the 199th Hawaii Air National Guard Fighter Squadron website:
http://199thfs.homestead.com/homeindex.html

"The first 199th Fighter Squadron Patch was designed by 1 Lt. Wade H. McVay Jr. The patch presented the mythical war god, "Kukailimoku," a symbol of fearlessness, valor and strength in the heat of battle and truly represented the spirit of the 199th Fighter Squadron, SE. This patch was officially approved on October 11, 1951"

Here's some photos of tikis on aircraft:

Here is a wee sprinkling of New Zealand Military Insignia

In the heart of my soul . I would that I had been born in Celtic lands
But I was born here . a Celt in Maori lands . And my heart is content

Those French soldiers and their atomic testes. That explains a lot.
