Good evening all! I've been lurking for a good while here at tikiroom, and have finally made the jump to posting! I'm a guitarist here in Houston, am seeking collaborators to form a band specializing in laid back, cocktail appropriate, lounge music infused with the spirit of Exotica and Tiki! Picture if you will a mid-century cocktail bar, lights low, ice tinkling in glasses, low conversation, drinking and dancing. Please drop me an e-mail or PM if you are interested! Headed to Houston this weekend for a wedding & while fruitlessly searching for tiki in Houston, I came across your post. Reminded me that when I read it previously, I wanted to make sure you knew about the upcoming 2nd Annual Tiki Roundup party in Austin on August 1st. Last year, we had plenty of out-of-towners and people who hadn't attended a tiki gathering before. We're a friendly bunch, so hope you will consider coming to the gathering. When I read your post previously, I thought your idea sounded great, but alas, Houston-Austin distances for getting together to play music seemed a bit daunting to me.
