Help Me Identify This 10' Canoe

Pages: 1 7 replies

Is this a ceremonial piece? Tourist? Ten feet long but only 7" wide and 5" deep. Has over 16' of Cassowary feathers on the edges. My guess is Gogodala......but not sure.

This came with it.

Mahalo

It's a touristy fake knock-off.

Bring it over on turkey day & I'll take it off your hands.

Very cool- I love this stuff.

Close!
It was used to transport mai tais up river.

It's actually a giant ceremonial incense stick holder.

Looks Like a Pipe... sort of that is... hummmm.. nevermind....
Back to my rum...

Endangered bird feathers, you should be more Casso-Wary of products such as these..

Nice piece! U should put it in the tiki boats thread.

I am not sure of the exact tribe but many of these "spirit canoes' are used briefly for a burial ceremony and discarded. They used to be burnt or left in the bush etc. but are now often sold for the tourist market as their usefulness has been completed.
So it could be authentic and a tourist curio at the same time.

If I'm not mistaken this canoe was used by the Anorexia tribe.
