Yeah, I am guessing I saw them in the late 80's, at some scummy bar in seal beach... The bass player had a big green upright.... I got a big orange upright.....copycat!! It's funny as they describe them as sounding like "Hippy violent femmes"....but as I recall they sounded a lot like very early Adam and the ants...kind of rockabilly, kind of punk...like "car trouble" or "kick". We were drunk and giving the singer some crap, heckling, that kind of thing (I was with my band mates that night) . What a guy! He came down to our table and hung out with us anyway, drank with us! Shag is literally one of my favorite artists in the world, along with Yanneger and people on this forum like Squid, C-al, B-Ben, cammo and LLT... [ Edited by: lucas vigor 2009-05-13 13:23 ] |

From that photo at the top of this thread I do recognize the fellow on the left. He was the longtime bass player of The Maikai Gents. A fine fellow who plucked them strings under the name Kiwini Hekili Hoku. Oh, and yes... The Huntington Cads: Welcome back! -Weird Unc |

Great band, great guys, we (Del Noah & the Mt Ararat Finks, my band at the time) played with them many times in the 1990's, and I've never seen them give anything less than a stellar performance! It is going to be great to see the Cads in action again at Tiki Oasis! Actually, there are more original members of The Finks (2, Steve and Chris) than The Swamp Zombies (1, Josh) in the Huntington Cads. Chris Barfield is one of the most tasteful guitar players out there, on a Hank Marvin kind of level. Brent aka Caltiki PS - I'm kind of jumping the gun, but it looks like we're going to have a Ding Dong Devils suite party at Tiki Oasis, with Ding Dong Devils playing, and a special concoction that our mixmaster Rama Lama is formulating as we speak. |

go exotic is an excellent album - I love the vibes on it. My absolute fav is their western EP. I REALLY want to make it to see the HC's play - apparently they used to play at Tigermask, and I went to several of those at the garage, but I don't remember seeing them. Thanks for getting us stoked on this Jeff! |
