Must do this one!

I went to a couple of these last year and the drum off (the last event of the year) and it was amazing. I know a lot of people here don't care for surf music, but there's no better place than the surf museum to see bands. Hanging in the parking lot with the surf cats- great vibes. Everyone is super cool and friendly. You never know who is going to show up. They barbeque burgers for a donation. But go across the street and get a beer, around the corner for a margarita. It's a cool way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Thanks Kiki,
its nice to see a bit of support for these shows.
the bands play for free/donate their time/art for the Surf Museum,
since its a non profit Museum.
and musicians are artists too.

as for that one Pier show,
I booked that,;-)
as its the day after the Big surf convention
I am doing on Sat Aug 1st.
more on that later.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Jeff....I think more people like surf music than you think....They just like to bust yer balls :o

BTW...The MOST EXCELLENT Aloha Grill is right around the corner. A Hawaiian/Tiki restaurant/bar with the most amazing Chicken wings ever (Hawaiian Drums), and lots of other great Poly - type dishes.

http://www.alohagrill.com

also not super Hawaiian but the Dukes at the HB pier is pretty good too.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Swank Bastards on May 17th! Yowza!

Rockin out all summer long! Nothing better than surf music (except maaaaybe rockabilly !) Looks like some good times to be had by all.

Hey KK,
hope to see you at some of these shows.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

thanks for posting this! I'm trying to get up there once a month on Sundays, now this makes it even more worth the drive!

Yes Thanks BTD! My husband and I love surf music and surf bands! We will make a point to head down that way as many times as possible this summer. Thanks again for the great information!

wow I am blown away by the responses,
thank you for replying.

hope to meet both of you at a show sometime,

I am a volunteer at the Surf Museum on sundays when bands are there.
so come up and say Hi,
I'm the big guy with long hair and a Life guard hat on.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

MAY 17
GLASGOW TIKI SHAKERS
THEE SWANK BASTARDS

I'm gonna try and come out for Thee Swank Bastards and Glasgow Tiki Shakers this Sunday. I don't really want to see Szandora, and I figure she probably won't be nearly as nekkid out in a public access parking lot! Can't guarantee, 'cause I'm feeling crappy and might be getting sick, and I won't share it with you all. I also gots to get some work done or I'll catch hell from Kinny!

yes Szandora will be very family friendly dressed for the surf museum show.
that's why I am going to both shows.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Will they be doing "Black Sabath Goes Surfin'" Sunday?

Awesome set!!!

The Boo's will most likely ride on over.

I F-ing LOVE surf music. If you don't think that it sits in PERFECTLY with tiki, then you are retarded..... hmmm... maybe it's just my own view of tiki... I'm still not taking back the retarded thing though....
Anytime I'm just playing my guitar on the couch, I always end up playing 'Driving Guitars', 'Lullaby of the Leaves', 'Surf Rider'....
Maybe I'll ride my bike down to the pier on Sunday.

Not sure what they will play at the Museum.
I hope they do a few Sabbath tunes though.

Spike,
the band is playing at the surf museum sun. corner of 5th and Olive, 1 over from Main. 2 up from PCH.
NOT at the pier.

Jeff(btd)

Thee Swank Bastards were bad ass.... Glasgow Tiki Shakers sounded amazing too.... Good times today, hanging with Ben and Vic and Jeff. Can't wait for next week!!

Spike,
no show next week, the Next show is 6 great bands at the HB pier.
on Sun June 7th.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

June 7 - on the calendar! I missed this weekend cause I was sick (again!) and just had no energy to be spreading viruses all over HB. Aren't you glad?

Kiki, sorry to hear you were/are sick.
I had somethin 2 weeks ago. not fun.

here is the line up for the June 7th.

JUNE 7 PIER PLAZA
PYRONAUTS ( super energetic young guys from Sacto area)
TSUNAMI BLUE(really good newer band from Oceanside)
BOARDWALKERS(celebrating 20 years of Instro madness in LA,also JonPaul on bass)
OUTER WAVE( OC trad masters, and great drinking buddys)
SLACKTONE(thee frickin insane band that will drop yer jaw to the ground)
JOHN BLAIR & THE TRESPASSERS (the Return of Jon Blair, of Jon and the Nightriders)

this is a must not miss show.
Jeff(bigtikidude)

Killer! That sounds like a good one! Slacktone is so rad! My buddy plays bass for them... He also plays bass for Dick Dale and was the touring bassist for Agent Orange for years. I got to be good buddies with him while my Ramones band was playing Brazil with one of his bands... Lotsa late nights, drinking at AmPm... Yeah, weird, I know... Also, Slacktone's drummer is Dusty Watson, who played with the Supersuckers! They are an amazing band.

Why wouldn't the surf museum put on a show this Sunday with the three day weekend?? I had full plans to ride the Schwinn down there and do me some drinking... DAMN....

Spike,
yeah I know all the Slacktone Guys really well, all super guys and amazing musicians,

as for why no show on this Sun. 2 reasons.

  1. they don't have shows every weekend.
  2. http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=32409&forum=17&0
This Guy Adrien of CHUM, and also in the Insect Surfers, puts on a yearly show in Hermosa Beach with 8 bands, and wants as many people there as possible.
if there was a show at the Museum, or pier, that would divide the all ready small surf crowd, so Linda, the Ent. Director holds off on doing shows that weekend.
    Capice?
    need a ride to Hermosa?

    Jeff(bigtikidude)

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Yo Jeff..... What time do you think Slacktone will be playing? I'm planning on a morning surf, then to the Ink n' Iron car show/ tat fest, then if I'm back in time, the surf show. I'd like to ride on down there.

Spike,
hahaha sounds like your gonna miss the pier show then.
its 11 am to 5 pm.

I think Slacktone is at 3 pm.
if you make it I'll buy you a drink at Don's after.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

so whaddya think Spike can ya make it?

if not you could always go to the Purple Orchid on Sat nite to see
Slacktone.
aka support the band and a tiki establishment.
:o
