If there were any tikis at the Castaways, they're gone now. It's been imploded.
I never made it to the hotel. All I can remember is they had luaus durring the summer.

I was at Castaways shortly after its reinvention. It was just tropical light and oddly depressing for a place with so much pastel. Not a loss to the Vegas landscape.

I was awakened put the rumble from the implosion at 7:00am yesterday morning. I asked Mrs. Pug (who was already up) is she had dropped something. The Castaways was 16 miles from our house.

FWIW, cross-posted from an old thread...

Also, as mentioned on that other thread, that makes this the second Castaways to be demolished, the first one being the Howard Hughes one on the strip where Mirage and TI are now. BTW, remember when you say TI instead of Treasure Island now, you have to kind of whisper and act seductive with a little wink of adult mischief in your eye.

This second one is the former Showboat casino, which must've been renamed for some good reason. I wonder what's going there, since it's not exactly a super happening part of town, as opposed to these other recent examples on the strip like the Stardust (so sad).
