Tiki Archeology on DVD

Here's another plug for the city of Burbank.

They have this cool little store called Eight Ball. http://www.yelp.com/biz/8-ball-burbank For those of you familiar with Wacko/Soap Plant near Tiki-Ti, this place is like a smaller version but they also sell hepcat clothes.

I was browsing their Tiki section and found a DVD "Tiki Archeology with your host Sven Kirsten". I purchased it at the store but you can also buy it off the web:

There's two segments, the first a 1996 BBC documentary "The Air-conditioned Eden" and the second, "Hawaiian Airlines Inflight Video Magazine". Very fun and informative with lots of location shooting (like my hometown of Rosemead). Also interviews with James Michener, Martin Denny, and an ethnic Hawaiian professor (who seemed to be biting her tongue on the matter). One thing I learned from the DVD is that if you really like tiki, the reason is because you're sexually repressed.

Another interesting thing I noticed, it looks like Sven ages 10 years between the two segments. I wonder if he picked up a Tiki curse along the way. :)

Former Miss Hawaii of 1998 is a co-host on part 2 who adds intelligent and insightful commentary like "Ew, that tiki is really scary looking !!"

Been wanting to get this for awhile now but... ugh!... 8-Ball's shipping to Canada is more expensive than the DVD itself!

John, are you kidding? As one of the, or perhaps THE earliest Northern missionaries of Tiki culture, I will send you one with my compliments. You gotta have one, especially with that cover!

Just p.m. me your address. Do it soon cuz I am leaving town the end of this week for a while.

Much appreciated Sven!

Mahalo!
