Though it's a cool-looking hotel, I doubt the Jamaica Bay Inn had much in the way of tiki decor, although the postcard states they did have a cocktail lounge, but doesn't tell what type or what it was named. The carved tiki under the sign is more a testament I think to the atmosphere of Tiki in Marina Del Rey in general. Similar to Shelter Island in San Diego, the Poly-pop influence was pervasive in the 60s and 70s. I remember Polynesian architecture in banks, stores and apartments, as well as some true Polynesian restaurants like Don The Beachcomber and Pieces of Eight. The Warehouse Restaurant is a good example of the old feel of Marina del Rey. [ Edited by: Sabu The Coconut Boy 2009-10-18 20:04 ] |
