Hello. I am new to these forums though I have lurked off and on for a while. My mother was from Hawaii and I grew up with a fair amount of Hawaiian and tiki items in our home. I was wondering if you all could help me estimate the value of a large tiki that I own and that I would like to sell. I have very little idea of what something like this is worth. Please forgive me if I should be posting my question elsewhere. This tiki has been in the family since sometime in the 1970s. I believe it was won in a radio contest (KFRC or KYA, I think). It stands about 7.5-foot tall and I'd guess that the wood is Hawaiian though I don't know what it is exactly. Any advice you can give me on what to ask for this item along with any background info (is this a Hawaiian god?) would be very appreciated! http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn250/gardel819/ba1624df.jpg [ Edited by: Tiki Jerry 2009-10-28 12:29 ] [ Edited by: Tiki Jerry 2009-10-28 12:30 ] |

WOW ! Nice carving and welcome aboard Jerry. I am just guessing but that may be a carving of Lono. He would make a great addition to any home bar. Thanks for posting. |

Looking at the color of the wood , it looks like Koa to me . If your back buckles trying to lift it , it really is Koa. |

Just start the bidding at $1 and go from there. |

I agree. On any unique piece, such as this, the only good way to find out what it's true worth, is to put it up for auction. Either start the bidding at one dollar or start it at a minimum price that you'd be happy with taking. Good luck, Chub |

Wow, nice tiki. Never seen one like that before. With the headdress, it is definitely a stylized version of Lono, and it does look like it is made of koa from your pics. From the sort of comical look to the mouth, It does look like it is from the 70s. Looks like it was carved very well. No name on it anywhere - not even on the bottom of his feet? |

Nice carving. Lot's little detail. It's probably worth what you're asking. Conservatively, at auction, I would say this would go anywhere from $400 - $1000. On a good day, perhaps as much as $1500. And if the right buyer were in the audience, maybe $2000.  |

Thank you everyone very, very much for your input! Happy to see that he has a name. :) I did post on craigslist sometime after my original post here. You'll probably also see me post in the Marketplace here (I'll have to see how that's done) too. I don't recall seeing any signature but I'll have to look again at the bottom of the feet.
