3rd Annual Southern California Slack Key Festival returns to Redondo Beach January 24, 2010 2pm. Mahalo to those that have posted on previous years and especially those that have attended - I appreciate your support and hope this coming show in 2010 does not disappoint. So far looks like the lineup will be: Pahinui Hawaiian Band (consisting of Cyril Pahinui and possibly Sonny Lim, Palani Vaughn and others), Makana, Jeff Peterson, Jim "Kimo" West, Ledward Kaapana, John Cruz!

I'd like you to get an idea of what's in store for you and what you've been missing if you haven't made it to one yet - check out this link to watch video highlights of the last show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxpcUW3HT2A

And here are a couple links to photo slideshows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-akNLMc7Xg

Please hit me up if you have any questions about anything! For those of you that have been, please post your comments and reviews!

I really wish we could go to this, but we have work being done at our house on Sunday and need to stick close to home. I cheked out the website, and it looks like a great event. SIGH.

1 last bump for tomorrow

Jeff(btd)

ok I lied,
last bump,
hope to see some TC people there.

Jeff(btd)

Jeff, great to get a chance to chat Sunday.

Kari, Gene, the couple who said they go to Oasis every year (sorry don't think I got your names)
Aaron & Jennifer (who do the Tiki Oasis website). Thanks for stopping by to say hi.

It was cold but fun!

Hey Doug, and Stacy,
yeah Great to see you 2 also.
it was a bit chilly, but remember,
we aren't shoveling snow right?

wish you could have come in and heard the tunes.
See you soon, in the real So. Cal.

Jeff(btd)

Doug! It was great to see you, too! And my mom enjoyed meeting you both. She thinks you and Stacy are clever and good-looking. Mom doesn't lie.
And what a great concert. Makana was AMAZING. That voice, that guitar... I really hope more Tiki friends show up next year. I think you all would really enjoy it. Follow it up with dinner at Tony's on the Pier or Back Home in Lahaina. It's like a mini-Hawaiian vacation.

I was in the house. Nice Hawaiian vibe and beautiful stage decoration.
Nice hula, although I would have like to have seen more of it.
The marketplace was fun.

we definitely need more TC people there next year.
I think the place seats like 3000 or so,
and for there to be only a handful of us there is sad.

and we should plan a Meet up at Tony's after for sure.
I was tired and broke, so I went strait home.
but if we plan for next year, I am up for it.

also I saw Rebbecca from Purple Orchid with 2 friends of hers.

Jeff(btd)

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello and support the event! Kari~ you're Mom is a total sweetheart (I'll trade ya)!
Hopefully next year the turn-out will be a little stronger and the weather will be a little warmer:)
Next on the "tiki" agenda...Ben's "garage sale"! Yaaaaay!!!!

K

Aloha and BIG mahalo to all who came out to the Festival!! It was PACKED! Couldn't have asked for better weather after all the rainstormin' we'd been having, a total bonus, especially for the vendors. Thanks to Doug and Swampfire Lounge for being a part of it!

I really appreciate all who take the time to email me or give me their feedback in person - that's what will continue to help make this event the best it can be. In the end, all I truly hope for is that everybody left feeling that they had a good time and got some real value for their money.

Congrats to Kari Hendler of Tiki Magazine who was the 2nd Prize winner in the "Spirit of Aloha" Benefit Drawing and won a Big Baby Taylor guitar, a private catered luau and a one year subscription to Acoustic Guitar magazine!!

Special thanks to Jeff (BTD) for coming out and for your support of the event!

Happy Chi Stacy, I like my mom too much to trade, but you she is available for party rentals.

I can't believe I won such a cool prize! And I even play the guitar, so... wow! Maybe this will magically make me a better musician. Thanks so much, Mitch! And thanks to my pal, Rebecca (yes, Purple Orchid Rebecca) for tellng me that she was positive she heard my name called during the raffle drawing.

Yes, Big Tiki Dude, we need to pump this concert up even more for next year, since it's such a fun event. Outstanding musicians, a night-before party at Trader Vics.. AND there's great Hawaiiana shopping for everyone! Added bonus: The Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center is close to Tony's on the Pier AND The Purple Orchid for your post-concert merrymaking.

Mitch is going to be producing several other events this year, including the Aloha Fest to be held this October in Redondo Beach! I have NO DOUBT that some of you Tiki artists might like to sell your unique wares at that event. It's AFTER The Hukilau and AFTER Tiki Oasis. What a great way to continue to feel some aloha spirit into the fall season!
