Orlando Tiki? Bahama Tiki? San Jose

Pages: 1 3 replies

Thanks so much for all the help with Hawaii Tiki!
It just so happens I will be traveling to Orlando... Ft. Lauderdale (Mai Kai)... San Jose and Bahamas. Whew.
Anything worth checking out in Orlando? Tiki Road trip says there is a place called Waitiki?
Ft. Lauderdale (besides the obvious Mai Kai)?
San Jose?
Bahamas? (There is supposedly some tiki restaurant on a ship?)

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated!

Tons of tiki in Disney World actually - Walt Disney was actually big into the tiki scene. Besides the Enchanted Tiki Room (forever damaged by the refurbishments a few years ago), you can visit the Polynesian Resort without paying admission to the parks. Check out the vid:

this is a cool fan-site for the Polynesian Resort

yes, I am a Disney geek as well as being a tiki nerd, say it loud and say it proud......

In Ft. Lauderdale, take a trip to the Wreck Bar to see Marina the Mermaid, she's swimming again.

Waitiki is a tiki-themed bar in downtown Orlando. They have some nice decorations, but other than that, it's completely forgettable. The last time I was there, most of the people were drinking bottled beer and the music was LOUD club mix. It's a shame, because it would be a great place to people watch on weekends.

Outside of the Mai Kai, I can't think of any must-see destination spots for the tiki lover. The Polynesian is nice enough, but it's still Disney. I you love Disney, you'll like it.

Let us know when you are in Orlando and maybe we can get the locals out. We have some pretty interesting people in the area.
