Has anyone on TC had this rum before? I just saw it at my local rum stop and wanted a couple of reviews before I buy. Here is something I found about it online. Thanks.

Its a fun rum, quite the challenge to mix with. The nose has hints of leather and feet which is distracting in your drink. So far the best thing I have found is to add some lemon and some ice and drink it all by itself.

If it isn't too much I would get it because it is a decent rum. I find it locally, if somewhat randomly, from $23 up to $30 so if your local has it for more than that leave it on the shelf.

I had found it a few years ago, at Hi time, and for 9 bucks on sale.
So I bought a few and gave them as gifts.
most of the people I gave it to, its still sitting there unopened.
Like Chip and or Andy said, its kinda difficult to mix with.
but I like to sip it sometimes.

I Need to try it with Lime and or Lemon,

I like this rum - it is the main rum available in India. I was there for about two weeks in 2008, and we used one taxi/car company during our entire stay, and tipped the owner on the final day. The owner then pulled one of his drivers aside, spoke some Hindi to him and gave him some money, and about 15 minutes later that driver was back, with two bottles of Old Monk rum. We drank one entire bottle together right then, and the other bottle I brought home with me.

Even though there was no tiki in India, I liked the communal 'ohana' spirit that happened, due to a shared bottle of rum.

Here's a recipe using Old Monk that I've made a couple of times. Pretty good...not outstanding, but not awful either:

Thanks for all of the feedback. It is rare indeed when the state of Michigan allows another rum to be added to the sale list. I saw it for twenty bucks this weekend so I'll give it a try.
