Mark your calendar for Surf Ohio FesTiki 2010, the second annual celebration of classic surf, tiki and hot rod culture in Dayton, Ohio. Catch the big wave of family fun on Saturday, Aug. 14, at historic Old River Park -- Dayton’s “vintage playground,” featuring a 1.5-mile scenic lagoon. Take an exotic trip back to America's "Polynesian Pop" era of the 1950s and '60s with six surf, rockabilly and Hawaiian music bands on the FesTiki stage! Thrill to the captivating rhythms of hula and fire dancers! Watch tiki carvers transform wooden logs into strange and frightening idols! Marvel at the gleaming chrome of classic pre-1970 hot rods! Gaze at the astonishing retro treasures in the vendors’ marketplace! I just wanted to put word out to possible tiki and retro vendors for Surf Ohio Festiki 2010. You could be part of our festival’s “Moai Marketplace” on Saturday, Aug. 14, at Old River Park in Dayton. Last year’s vendors were pleased with their success at Festiki, and several sold out of their wares. A 10’ x 10’ spot is $50. The fee includes two (2) adult admissions, a $20 value. The $50 fee is waived for tiki carvers who demonstrate tiki carving at their booth. For more information, visit the Festiki Web site at http://www.festiki.com and click on the link for vendor info. The rate is $99 a night -- a $10 discount from their standard $109 rate. The info is posted on Festiki.com, but to save you a few clicks here is the reservation link. We're excited to have so many out of town guests coming to Festiki! For those who want a slightly cheaper option, here are reservation links for the Courtyard across the river from Old River Park. The Marriott is walking distance to the Festiki gate, but you will have to drive (or swim) from the Courtyard. How was the rest of the evening? Did all of the bands get to play? How thin did the crowd get? I tried to spend as much money as I could between rains since the vendors at this years event had lots of good stuff!! Would be interested in some reviews of the day. Tikimitch

Not sure when the last rain ended, but the rest of the night turned into something simply enchanting. The bands were phenominal, the fire dancers unbelievable and they even worked it out with the park to keep the festivities going a little later than planned. I wish I had time to go into detail, but suffice to say...it only got better as the evening went on. Great job Festiki!
