I've seen a couple of these in Spain behind a bar, and they look extremely cool with a light behind them. There's a photo somewhere..... Anyway, well worth a bid! Trader Woody |

Yeah, there have been posts about this baby, it's sweet: I wish more liquor stores would carry it here. I found mine in Germany. Isn't there any internet liquor store that offers it? |

First of all - this guy could be on the level but it seems kinda weird to me... You notice anything unusual about this seller? Check out his other auctions and you'll see a ton of sports memoriblia and four tiki/Chilean items! Also, notice that all the sports auction list his location as San Diego. I have been very leary of sellers who ship from outside the U.S. since a friend of mine was ripped off by a guy for $1,800. His situation was a little more unusual but to make a long story short - someone had been tapping into inactive accounts with great feedback, posting items for sale, having people wire them the money and then disappearing without ever shipping the items. Like I stated at first - he could be on the level - I don't know if it's possible to pull this scam if you use an active account...just thought I'd pass this along! CAVIAT EMPTOR Johntiki |

good point.. the seller has been very responsive to my questions, but i did notice, the brandy is the only tiki thing he sells. is "aquarj" a tiki centralite? he/she purchased one.. maybe i'll wait to see if they get theirs. right now, i'm looking into customs, to see if booze can even BE shipped directly to me, from chile. there is a site on line to purchase.. http://www.internetwines.com/rws17134.html |

I have been talking to this guy and he sounds kind of fishy to me. I asked him why he was listed in two different countries and he told me it was a family business. He drinks the pisco and ships the bottle to his family. I asked him how he would ship a full bottle to the USA and he did not answer that question. I would like to have it, but not so much that I would risk losing 50 bucks. [ Edited by: KokomoTikiBar&Grill on 2002-08-02 09:29 ] |

MD sucks! I think we are one of the only states that do not allow interstate Alcohol purchases through mail order/internet. Local House is trying to pass a bill that will allow it. They said it was originally done to stop underage drinking. What teen wants to wait a week or 2 till their order arrives? This stupid law is killing the local wineries. Other states wont take our wines, because we can't get theirs. We can however, get porn. Here's a funny story of our Govt in action According to the American Vintners Association, other wineries, including one in Washington, have made similar complaints. Oregon, Washington and West Virginia allow their residents to have wine shipped to them, as long as it comes from states that permit the same practice. But UPSs regional distribution center for ground shipments is in Maryland, which bans shipments of alcoholic beverages from out-of-state producers directly to consumers. In fact, such shipments are considered a felony there. UPS confirmed that it would destroy any wine shipment that stopped in any state that bans direct shipping, regardless of the final destination. "The growth of Internet sales has placed increased scrutiny on us, so ... we would not be shipping [wine] into, out of, or through Maryland," said UPS spokesman Bob Godlewski. He urged wineries to check with UPS first. AVA president Simon Siegl believes that the Maryland law cannot be used to prevent shipments to other states. And the Maryland Comptrollers office denied any involvement in UPSs decision to dispose of certain shipments. According to Charles Ehart, director of Marylands Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Division, shipments of wine through Maryland to West Virginia are legal, as long as the carrier buys a permit, for $102. But UPS has not applied for one, he added. "So, if they transport alcohol [into Maryland], they are in violation of the law." :sheckymug: [ Edited by: Turbogod on 2002-08-02 10:18 ] [ Edited by: Turbogod on 2002-08-02 10:19 ] [ Edited by: Turbogod on 2002-08-02 10:26 ] |

Well, just before I read these posts, I purshased two bottles from him. I'll let you know how it turnes out. He seams o.k. to me and I have dealt with plenty of bogus sellers in the past. He has also been very responsive to all my e-mails, I think he's on the level but I'll let you all know. [ Edited by: laney on 2002-08-02 11:06 ] |

The seller says "This item is not available at any retail outlet." I bought this same item at a liquor store in Costa Mesa. Same price he's selling it for $19.99 |

So I dig the moai, and I've been casually and unsuccessfully hunting for that decanter since I first saw it in like 1998. Finally gave up on the lucky-thrift-score hopes and started trying special order requests at various places, including some of the ones here in the SF area that supposedly will order "anything." Apparently they mean "anything but Pisco Capel Moai" (or Pimento Liqueur). So that fell flat, even at a local wine shop with a big Internet business (wineglobe). Tried asking at the piscocapel website - no answer. So I checked a few likely stores, including ones where other TC members said they bought it in the past. On a trip to LA, one store in Long Beach finally told me that it had been a special edition bottle from Pisco Capel, but that they don't make it anymore. Ugh. Finally got an empty one on ebay recently. It was so beautiful I decided to keep looking for more on ebay, as gifts for some upcoming birthdays and stuff. And now within days of completing an ebay deal with that guy in Chile and while still awaiting delivery, you turkeys post about a cheaper, easier, faster way to get it. Not only that, I get specifically fingered as one of the schlubs who bought from that guy. Well damn, I'm gonna enjoy them anyway! Just kidding - may you always find your treasures for less $$$ than your friends paid. -Randy |

I have a bottle of Kahlua in a small, vaguely Mayan looking figure. Not tiki, but may have been what you saw. |

Followup on the ebay Pisco Capel moai seller guy in Chile... I just got the bottles I bought from him, much faster than expected, delivered (with contents) to CA. So it turns out he was a real straight-shooter. Since I got a couple extra ones as gifts, I saw that they have a little variation in glass color, which is really neato. Here's a pic I took on the wkend: -Randy |
